Anyone know if the serial port emulation on the latest winuae is good enough to work with the old VBS 3.0 hardware & software???

Why ????!!!! :-?
If you want to back up your Winuae setup just copy the hdf.
The fastest way to backup today is to buy an removable harddisk bay to install in a 5,25 bay and a hardisk then just copy the files to that and remove it.
If want you don´t to do that just use CD-RWs.

Videobackup was a cheap way to do big backups back then but now it´s obsolete.
Actually history repeat itself C64-music casette---CDTV/CD-ROM,  Amiga Videobackup---DVD writers, then the next big media should be a datamedia.

Actually, I have a stack of stuff on tape already, and I was going to transfer it all to cd-r. just wanted to know if it would work properly, as I dont want to damage the device...

Well the only hardware problem i can think of is if it uses the amigas extra powerline on the serialport.
