Amiga Hardware Issues and discussion / CD32 won't start
« Last post by darksun9210 on March 24, 2023, 10:16:57 PM »
Hey all,
so, i reserrected my CD32 to front and centre livingroom position with a new TF360 (Thanks SupaDupa), and for about a day or 3 life was great.

i've heatsinked the CPLD's and the 060, got a 60mm fan on the top to cool it all pulling cool air in through the top vents. Quake1, Quake2, demos, you name it. it ate it. even clocked up to 66.7Mhz, and AGA showing RTG a good lick of speed. great times.

now. i don't know if i've cooked the old original PSU. but i've tested with a molex-4pinDIN power adapter on a PC power supply, and it's the same. i'm thinking a cap has gone wonky in the CD32 itself.
on poweron, the power LED stays dim for ages. eventually, it might go bright, and some time after, it might display the CD32 rom scrolling colours screen. but it'll then kill the screen after a few minutes. power light stays bright if it has "woken up". power off and back on again repeats the cycle.

any ideas? or shall i send her off for a re-cap anyway - whats the worst that could happen?

thanks for looking

make sure to follow morphOS instructions.. from the morphOS page

ACube Sam460

The Sam460 supports installation both via CDROM and via SD card inserted into the internal SD card slot of the Sam460. We recommend installing from CD where possible.

via CD

    Turn on your Sam460.
When prompted to do so by the firmware, press enter on the keyboard to activate the boot selection menu.
When the boot selection menu appears, press enter again to activate the boot device menu. From this menu either choose '3x12 SATA DVD' or '3114 SATA DVD' depending on which SATA controller your optical drive is connected to. If you are not sure, then try first the one and then the other.
Press enter to confirm your choice in the boot device menu, then escape and enter again to select 'boot this configuration'.
MorphOS will now start booting. Once it is done booting, follow the on-screen instructions.

via SD card

    Download morphos-3.17-hybrid.hdimg.
Write morphos-3.17-hybrid.hdimg to an SD card directly as a disk image.
Insert the SD card into your Sam460's internal SD card slot.
    Turn on your Sam460.
When prompted to do so by the firmware, press enter on the keyboard to activate the boot selection menu.
When the boot selection menu appears, press enter again to activate the boot device menu. From this menu choose 'USB HD'.
Press enter to confirm your choice in the boot device menu, then escape and enter again to select 'boot this configuration'.
MorphOS will now start booting. Once it is done booting, follow the on-screen instructions.

I have a ATI Radeon X1950 XT, which is supported by MorphOS!
And my SiI3112 SATA card as well.
I even used dd tool to copy the hdimg to the SD card.
So it must be something else...

It works on my Sam 460LE.

It may be your graphics card..

Make sure it's compatible with MorphOS!

What OS are you using?
Sometimes CFs are incompatible and do stuff.

Thank you. Are there any recommended brands, it other particular ones to avoid. I'm not going to risk the generic brands from Amazon etc.

The specs are nearly identical to the CR model, so why should't it work as well?
But I could imagine the installer sees the LE as an unsupported model and refuses to run...
If that's the case, I probably have to wait for Morphos 3.18.
19
Is it even supposed to work with Sam460LE? From their web pages it looks only CR and EX are supported.

Hi, any Sam460 users here? Tried to install MorphOS on my new Sam460LE board, but it won't boot. Either the SD Card image nor the Live CD will boot, I only get a blank screen. AmigaOS 4.1 just boots fine via SD or CD, so why does the system refuse to boot MorphOS?
Any ideas what the problem is?
