Back to the Efika: Is there no other way to install MorphOS2.1 on to my Efika? I have a USB to 44pin IDE adapter, will that work? I think I will go try by attaching a 4GB laptop drive to it and transferring the MorphOS2.1 file to that and then plug the adapter into the Efika. Wish me luck.

The harddrive that you install MorphOS on needs to have RDB and FFS/SFS instead of PC-style MBR/FAT/etc. That makes it complicated. But maybe...

1) put the boot image (the ~12MB file) on the HDD using PC
2) attach it to the Efika and boot
3) copy the contents of the boot image to RAM
4) repartition the harddrive
5) copy the stuff from RAM back to harddrive
6) run the wizard, download the full installation archive, finish the install

It might work if you could do it all within 30min.

      Your joking, right?

It timed out way before I could even download the .iso, so...... I'll try this:

1) put the boot image and 2.1 iso file on the HDD using PC
2) attach it to the Efika and boot
3) RUN the iWizard
4) Since the partitioning is already done, finish the install

Took some time, but it sure was nice seeing that Efika booting on my 37" LCD TV, gorgeous!

Edit: The 4gb hdd attached to the usb adapter is not the hdd I am using inside the Efika, it is an extra.

Well, that plan did not work.  I can't find where to download the iso image of MOS2.1.  The only files you can download from the team MOS site is the ~12mb install image file.

Does anyone know where or how I can download the MOS2.1.iso image from my PC, not from the time limited MorphOS2.1 install process which times out before I can complete the download?

Thanks!

Thanks for the advice, but I could not find any .iso downloads.

I did get MorphOS2.1 installed and running and I am typing this from my Efika!

Sputnik isn't Firefox, but it works.

All I need to do now is find where it tells me how to adjust the boot.img so I don't have to type boot at each cold start.

text is not wrapping in this window, I hope it wraps when I post this message.

Anyway, I have stayed up all night to get this running and play with it, so I am off to get some sleep.

In the open firmware type the following commands to set up auto booting :-

setenv boot-file boot.img 3D ramdebug
setenv boot-device hd:0 (if first partition)
setenv auto-boot-timeout 3000
setenv auto-boot? true

Thanks Gaz,

I have recovered from my "all nighter" with the Efika and MOS2.1 and back for more.

MOS2.1 looks much better on my 20" Dell widescreen LCD than it did on my 37" LCD TV, but I don't know why.

Is there a way to install better fonts for sputnik?  I already clicked on the download and install fonts icon in the sputnik drawer, but the fonts still look bad when browsing A.org.

I am also testing an IDE CD-ROM drive connected to a USB-to-IDE adapter, but have not gotten MorphOS to see it yet.

I'm having a different problem installing, writing "boot scsi 0 morpos-2.1-efikainstall.img" gives:

error: error while trying to load or boot.

Any ideas what I should try?

trying with a different disk (a WD USB disk which is not a memory stick) I get:

list-files hd0
DOS partition 0: fat21/lba (0xC)
error: no filesystem recognized

boot hd0 morphos-2.1-efikainstall.img
error: no filesystem recognized

boot scsi 0 morphos-2.1-efikainstall.img
error: bootimage format is of an unknown format

So... I'm not sure what's up :)

EDIT:
When using "show-scsi" when trying to use the memstick. It says:
USB Storage:
Disk | Kingston | DataTraveler 2.0 | PMAP | SCSI-0 removable

And when trying to list the files:
error: unexpected NULL (pointer to) instance

What should I try now?

Should be "scsi:0" not "scsi 0".
Time to move on.  Bye Amiga.org.  :(

Thanks, I just found that googling. But now I get a new error:

When I set up the 60GB HD it doesn't manage to save a RDB table to it it says. And if I try to save a MBR it just freezes.

Also, I only seem able to boot the install image from my Western Digital passport(320GB), and not from any of my usb memsticks.

EDIT: The message I get is: "RDB Partition Table creation failed for unit 0"

EDIT 2: Actually, if I go in and out of HDConfig after this "TOSHIBA MK6025GA" "no medium inserted"

EDIT 3: Now I'm past that. Following an advice fond at powerdeveloper via google, I put the disk in a laptop, fired up an ubuntu live distro and wrote "dd if=/dev/zero of=/dev/hda bs=512 count=1", thus overwriting the MBR on the disk.

This way, MOS was able to write an MBR or RDB on it with no problems.

Wierd :)

I could not use 3D and ramdebut. It made the efika bog-slow and made the mouse fall out. PS, I use a 128MB Radeon9200 with my efika

Hello all,  I have been having severe
back problems for the past 7 to 10 days
that have kept me in bed most of the
time, but managed to drag myself out to
work on my EFIKA again.

I finally got my keyfile installed and
no longer need to worry about the time
limitation.  Hurray!!!  It was screwed
up before due to being transferred from
my Mac as a resource file, but all is
well now and I am typing this from my
EFIKA now.

The next task is to replace the 4gb hdd
with the 60gb hdd I removed from my dead
G4 PowerBook. Another task that is high
on my priority list is getting the
display to 1024x768 or higher.  Specially
with Sputnik for web browsing.  I am now
using an old Nokia 447W crt monitor,
which should be able to display 1024x768
at least. I can't seem to get the Screens
or Monitor Prefs to do anything.  Very
strange and a bit frustrating, but I am
sure it is me, being such an amatuer on
MorphOS. :-D

Mh, not exactly sure, but were you using a 16bits screenmode and default skin? If so, that's probably the reason why it was slow (debuglog is spammed by a missing conversion error message for shadows, which can probably slow down the efika). Try again with 32bits to be sure.
