morphos 2.1 install efika
« on: September 06, 2008, 04:51:15 PM »
Problem solved my error was installing old ver on top of new boot.img
edit:

Any work around this?Efika:

Download MorphOS-2.1-efikainstall.img and put it in the root directory of a USB mass storage device.
Insert the USB device into a USB port on the Efika.
In order to have access to a mouse and keyboard while you are installing from a USB device, we suggest you use a USB hub to connect these input devices.
Turn on your Efika.
Press escape on the keyboard until you reach the Open Firmware prompt.
At the Open Firmware prompt, type:
> boot scsi:0 MorphOS-2.0-efikainstall.img
MorphOS will now start booting. Please be patient. This may take a short while. Once it is done booting, click on the iWizard icon and start the download of the full MorphOS ISO..
Please note that the default ISO download directory is ram: - however the ISO will not fit there. Therefore, you must manually adjust the download path to match the partition you are installing MorphOS to.

are we to type MorphOS-2.0 or 2.1?
I may have messed up!

if not then how does 2.1 come into play?

some how dead in the water and can't boot any help?

Clearly the 2.0 there is a mistake (I mean if you just downloaded the MorphOS-2.1-efikainstall.img and put it on the media, how could you boot MorphOS-2.0-efikainstall.img from it?).

Anyhow, the mistake is unfortunate. Apologies for that.

I mean i knew that and started it that way, but the usb kept dropping so couldn't install, i downloaded it from sputnik then tried accessing it there, but when i got to the dl opt i didn't know what to do there so i tried to back out, and that's when all hell broke loose! now i cant boot, cant reinstall (keeps dropping usb) and installboot works but no usb. i think its reading the formatted drives and then dropping the firmware usb.

now im thinking trhat i have to reformat huh? and if so how from firmware?

I did that and it started loading..about a minute later I'm at the iWizard and installing 2.1.  works here :-?

Have you tried a different USB-stick? Maybe a different USB hub? At work we are having loads of problems with USB hubs, some of them just doesn't work correctly. I had some troubles with OF recognizing my USB-stick, but eventually it started to work, don't know why I had the problems.

Second thing that gave me problems was my USB to PS2 k/m adapter. It just didn't work with MOS it hang on boot everytime.

Hmm btw I have to check if this problem is corrected with MOS 2.1

OK, JUST WONDERING, MAYBE YOU ARE HAVING OTHER ISSUES, "DUDE".
Pipe down on the all caps kid.

painkiller:
your idea is plausible.. i was thinking hardware issue also, assuming the problem wasnt user related.

Ok typing this from Sputnik running on efika with Mos 2.1 :)

I too had an issue with usb dropping keyboard on the open firmware but i put this down to usb to ps2 converter i was using,
I dragged out a usb keyboard and mouse and the install worked flawlessly :)

@zyphoid

Are you using normal usb keyboard and mouse or any type of converter?

BTW My USB to ps2 adapter works perfectly once 2.1 is installed :)

If you got a drop in OF itself, then it's not related to MorphOS at all. :)

@fab
the drop comes at ambient screen prior or during wizard
all my drives boot then(icons) but like i said they don't boot during openfirmware, it hangs on the op prompt after the 5-1 countdown, or ent key.  early menu cant be accessed either.

virtually i'm stuck!!

theusb was the one i initally used but i'll try another

I installed 2.1 over 2.0 without any probs. I put the boot image and the iso on the same usb stick. I have a $4 walmart usb hub (unpowered) and plug my logitech g15 keyboard + g5 mouse, hun in top usb connection, stick in bottom usb connection.

boots up, installs no problem.

I boot it up via the ethernet since the usb is SOOOOO SLOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOW to boot the image.

yay for tftp on my linux box.

I'm having similar problems and I don't think it's down to typing !!

My usb stick is connected directly into the Efika and all other peripherals are connected to a hub.

I will be trying other usb sticks in an attempt to resolve this issue.

I assume when it states download the image to the root directory all that involves is copying the file directly to the usb stick.
