Do what I do. To find a hotel in the area, go to
http://www.hotels.com
Input "Mountain View, CA" and the date(s) that you will need a room. Click on SEARCH. You will be presented with a list of hotels. Along the left side of the screen, there is a sidebar. Click on Landmarks, and a list will drop down. Check off "Computer History Museum." The list of hotels will then refresh, this time with all the hotels from the nearest to the farthest in distance from the Computer History Museum.
You don't have to book through Hotels.com; you can use another travel site, like Trivago.com or Booking.com, but the list of hotels will give you an idea of what there is.

Thanks for the Internet lesson :flak:
ANYWAY, I have already done the research to find the expenses, which is how I knew it was going to hit me hard in the wallet. I got a travel agency customer to book me. They couldn't do any better than what I found on my own, but their booking system allows me to spread the costs between now and July, so that helps. I would rather have gone my way (would be about 6,000 miles in SkyMiles which would bring me up to a free trip,) but I have to think about budget right now. Which was also why I asked if anyone local knew about anything special -- I know two hotels in my are which aren't listed in the big names but are, well, cheap but livable enough for a few days.
Anyway, I'll be there. I'm close enough to the museum to make it worth my while.
