Cyrrus - When? :-)
« on: February 28, 2014, 11:40:50 AM »
Sorry in advance for this thread :-) Just couldn't help my self

I can see on A-Eon's facebook page that the Cyrrus boards are at revision 2.1. Anybody know/heard a rumor about when we can expect to see a finished board that we can buy?

Btw: This is NOT a thread about how insanely expensive it is gooing to be :-)
Booooiiiing!!!!

The boards seem to be in the hands of beta testers and the AOS4 code is being developed; the inference (in only my opinion) is that they would be available with the release of OS4.2; looking at the board design, there are more changes than just the CPU; likely this may delay the time frame.

It is spelled, "Cyrus"

Issues surrounding development and release are searched for more consistently when spelled correctly: CYRUS

Since it has been in the hands of beta testers for a bit, the wait is not infinite; and with reports that the cost of the CPU (not being tied to the ridiculous prices they get away with selling to the US military -- $800 toilet seats) I'm hoping for a more reasonable motherboard price.  I am happy with my one core X1000 running OS4.1, yet I'd like to do build on the Cyrus running a dual core OS4.2. @apsturk

Yes pretty much, the exact Sam460ex model may differ somewhat.

You must have a custom made X1000 if it only has one core?  (just kidding, don't get angry)  My PA6T came with 2, though AmigaOS4.1.6 can't use both of them yet.

I applaud you for having the commitment to the platform to consider purchasing a 2nd A-Eon/AmigaKit X-series motherboard to build another AmigaOS4.x system.  I have read some good things about the differences being worked on for the X5000 motherboards, that will make it an ever better system than the excellent X1000.

Now if someone could just find (or build) a new PPC laptop at a price that would make sense to port AmigaOS4.x to, we would have all the hardware choices we need for this niche OS. (other than a $200 tablet, so the people who won't join the party until a "Really" cheap AmigaOS4.x system becomes available.  I don't blame them for wanting a low cost alternative and entry level system for AmigaOS4.x users.  For some users, even the cost of the SAM boards is too much for what they think they are getting, and I won't argue with anyone regarding that point.  Each person has different price points where this OS becomes an acceptable entry point, and for some, it is not the right OS no matter what the price of the hardware, which is fine with me too.  AmigaOS4.1.6 is not for everyone, and luckily we have so many other choices to get your "Amiga" fix from.)

Laser?  That sounds interesting, if you are really considering playing around with a laser connected to your X1000, or X5000 system.  Pictures please!

Has it been stated what revision of OS4.x the X5000 will ship with?
