I'm not sure why folks are being so down & negative about this? Seems pretty cool to me!

Interesting.  I am not convinced that a SCSI interface is the best idea, though, even with a SCSI->SATA adapter, the price of a hard drive goes up a bit.  My suggestion would be a small IDE interface, or better a 2.5" SATA interface.  A clean-up of the chips might give enough room to actually rest the hard drive on the board to slide into the SATA port, like some of the USB enclosures.  A CF interface would be cool, too, but perhaps feature-creep.

A USB interface would be nice to have, something like a built-in Deneb.  A lot of work to make this board Zorro III, would it be?

hrmmmm  Very cool, indeed.  Looking forward to updates.

One thing is replacing a common A500 board for a more usable 030 + FAST RAM one.

For having PCMCIA and/or IDE you need a soldered PLCC Gayle chip in the motherboard, adding high costs (high-density tracks, 4-layer board).

Keep the board simple and Amiga 500 compatible and that's all.

Maybe adding a header for a IDE68k somewhere can be an excellent idea.
Goodbye people.

I\'ll pop on from time to time, RL is acting up.

what

No what I meant is a direct replacement motherboard for my 1000 with much improved specs. So with an 030/040/060 not 68000, 32bit Fast RAM on the motherboard too, KS in RAM not ROM and pref 32bit Fast RAM like some A1000 acc boards had. A super Denise and obese Agnus with 2mb Chip RAM would be nice. And actually forget SCSI, a 7200RPM 2.5" IDE drive and a 32bit IDE controller on the CPU is faster than any Amiga will ever require, and simple to find.

Also that product website is probably the worst I have ever seen, devoid of a simple explanation of features in the main page. It's all meaningless if you just want to know about it at the basic level not someone who already knows all about it Anyway I lost interest as soon as I saw there's 68000 on the motherboard so it's nothing like this project with 030 and 32bit Fast RAM on the m/b etc let alone an ECS upgrade which is impossible for an A1000.

Gayle compatible IDE can be implemented with a $2 CPLD.

Yes, but the the motherboard cost will go up like a moon rocket since the CPLD required very near tracks and even a four-layer board in that area.

Installing a simple CPU header and then the controller over it will spare a lot of money. Ugly? Yes, but cost effective.

You won't need a four layer board.

Look at Georg's replacement board. Can't believe you haven't heard from it, it is much like the A500++. It features 68030/882 @ 50Mhz, 8MB Fast Ram, 1MB FlashROM, IDE controller (based on the AT2008), optional Flicker Fixer, Optional Graphics card based on Picasso II etc.

It's not mine, it's from Amiga-Digital, but if it goes well, I'll probably be one of the testers.
I would have this any day over my A500 :)

I guess the guy just doesn't know how PATA (as it's now called) works :)

@Amiga_Nut

PATA is 16-bit. Always has been and now that it has been superseded by SATA, always will be.

..get out your glasses, re-read the site more carefully, whatever, but the GBA1000 board IS a drop in motherboard replacement with '030 and fastram onboard.

edit: ..what Tahoe said.
