Greetings!
« on: January 15, 2009, 04:34:46 PM »
Hello,

I'll try to stay short...

I'm a guy that got bored from OSX, not mentioning Windows and Linux past marriages and is eager for some new retro adventure.

Yet in December I came across some information about Amiga.  It was just a flash on the screen, I don't remember the webpage but anyway...  I was searching and learning, through and through, thrashed my all Christmas (I am to blame)... And eventually I found all I needed, ending on the urge to HAVE a new OS4 on my new fancy sam440 soon.

What else - about ancient times...

I had Atari 65XE, then NES, then my beloved A500 1MB (my first TRUE game was Wolfchild).  After selling it (I got new hobbies in high school such as metal music, tons of beer and stuff) I haven't had ANY computer for some four-five years, then a few pieces of some PC garbage, then mini mac and... thats all for computing and gaming.

I am also a mobile/wireless geek with some experience;  I used to have a few palmtops, cpen, some cells under Windows and Symbian, but it started getting boring, again.

My background... I am a math-IT&T-Bioinfo enthusiast, experienced anyway.

My last source of fun: getting OS4 boot on my MacMiniPPC!!! (Yes! it works!)

What I wanna do here is... exchange some ideas, infos and memories, maybe do something useful (programming??? why not! OS4 deserves it!).

End of story.  I am talkative, aren't I?

Welcome to A.org,

Not many here can make the claim to have successfully booted AOS4 on their PPC MacMini!

Your talents could certainly be useful in helping complete the port of AOS4 to the PPC MacMini so that it does more than just boot and is actually fully functional and useful, just like the MorphOS team is attempting to do.

It would/will be great to have one readily available, relatively cheap hardware, that is capable of running both MorphOS and AmigaOS faster than any currently available offerings.
How are you helping the Amiga community? :)

@DiskDoctor

Welcome aboard.

I've been running OS4 for about 4 years and 1 month ( OS4.1 since September 2008 ).

I started out with Z80 stuff, then bought an Amiga A2000HD, then went the way of Windows PC's for awhile, then bought my MicroA1 and a laptop.  I would like to buy a SAM440 next, and my son wants to upgrade to a newer PC and my wife wants to get rid of some computer hardware.  We'll see who wins. ;-)

Say what?

You mean some other members' badge?
I checked what you say and found nothing for the time being :)

But if this is a case anyway, well, it happens!
Still, some things are worth trying.

If it messes with anything here, I am to change it.

Actually maybe I should have checked that first (?) whether it collides with anybody.  Talking about some forums' gold standards, I am pretty green because it is my first registered forum ever (seriously).

Maybe I should get some forum 101 ebook before I make some mess here...

@ amigadave

Yeah! I wish to help finishing this MacPPC port.
I did some heavy programming in my life (XP methodology; you're through it, you're a psycho).

So I think it's just a matter of time.  What is to be done anyway?  Just the ethernet and music I suppose?  Then it (OS4 @ MacPPC) becomes mature enough to use it for REAL on this very hardware.  Real budget fun for anybody.

I will, Indeed, step into some hard core geeky section that deals with the case.
