direct deposit...ive just discovered that he also got money from another bidder as well ..who also never got the card or cash back...this guy is a loser

 He's a criminal. You need to find out his name and address. Then what you do next is in your hands...

Ebay can't refund you but you can certainly report it to ebay and the police if you have correspondence regarding the agreed sale. It's worth a try, $500 is no joke.
If that doesn't bare fruit then you'll have to put your thinking cap on and figure out how to get some money/satisfaction back from this situation.
