What can I do with an A1200?

Hi there.

If any of you saw any of my previous posts, I'm thinking on buying an A1200 (either new or used). Since my previous experience with Amigas is only related to the A500 (and that only with games), I'd like to ask you what can I expect to be able to do with an A1200?

- With an HD and PCMCIA NIC, can I use it as an Internet Box (for browsing, mail check, chat, etc)?

- Is the AIAB or any other emulator-package a valid imitation of the A1200 workbench experience (so I can try before I buy)?

-Besides that, what to you, A1200 user, do with your Amiga?

You can do all that you mention with an A1200.  Just make sure it has more than the stock 2 MB of RAM in it.  That's not enough.  At least get a RAM expansion card.  Better yet, get an accelerator with RAM slots on it.

To be honest, i have my a1200T and to use it for web browsing is well... a little dissapointing compared to PC's nowadays. You need to get a decent Graphics card installed to get off the "AGA" look that you have stock, but even then dont expect miracles to happen (remember it IS 10 years old!)

Saying that, lots of people use a1200's to browse the net as their only connection, maybe they can list the pro's rather than the cons.

But remember, AGA is slow, and your limited to the types of websites you can go onto.
