i wouldnt pay more than 200 for any classic hw. that means i dont buy alot of stuff. its russian roullette buying old stuff you never know if the next time you switch it on is the last.
old pc hw: who cares; a cassic miggy in mint cond. that sucks.

Yes, I'm done with A4000Ds even though I'd love to own one. I've gone through 2 desktops and one towerized desktop. They work when I get them and a few months later - pow they don't boot. I guess one completely restored with new capacitors everywhere including on the accelerator, no battery leakage and replaced ram slots with metal hold downs would be worth a bundle.

However, one that just looks clean with no mention of the above restoration should not be going for that much. I know people are nuts but that looks to be over the top.

I think, Therefore - Amiga....

There are lots of fake people (and real people too) who make fake bids on Ebay all the time and never get in any trouble.  That is why I don't use Ebay.

Yep I knew a couple of guys that would do this all the time then go on forums and post excited comments about how they found such great deals on ebay. They were selling toys.

This is exactly one of my reasons I hate private lisitings. I know you cant tell who is bidding, but at least when its not private you can see if its a new eBayers account one with less than 10 feedback. If I see any bids from these two types of accounts I avoid the auction as I suspect theyre inflating the price.
I realise you all gotta start somewhere but Ill let someone else take the risk of being ripped off.

At the end of the day it's what people are willing to spend. Yes it's stupid how people are like "ZOMFG IT'S AN A4000!!!! UBER ULTRA RARE!!! BIDDDDDD!!!". It's the buyers problem really.

Just a shame you can't enjoy the old hardware since it fetches such a high price these days. When you buy such a thing, i'd feel hollow and worried about if such hardware goes wrong (CS PPC's for example, it's entirely likely).
In conclusion, there's often 2 types of buyers, collectors that have more money then sence and the people who want to enjoy them for what they are (but can't now thanks to collectors). Do remember it's only old computer hardware (like a 486 or Pentium I PC, except better obviously. Just making a point).

Plus if you think this is silly, look at what 68880 33+ MHz FPU's are fetching, they are not even rare.

I've asked the seller whether those are legitimate bids, or whether the auction will be relisted soon.  Let's see.

And the winner is the bot!

But the second highest bidder was a true person. Too bad he stop his bids at mere 1250...
Goodbye people.

I\'ll pop on from time to time, RL is acting up.

Almost at a loss for words... Nishtek is and has been a reputable dealer, but you guys think there was some shill bidding going on? $1275 for a barebones (albeit clean) A4000 is utterly fantastic (trying to be diplomatic here). Just wonder if the caps prone to failure on the 040 board AND the audio output were replaced. That could drive the cost up some, but yikes. Other thing I noticed was the $8 shipping charge. I swear, there's a lot of goofy ePayer's that live for cheap or free shipping. More often than not, people will NOT bid a product up if the shipping is high. As if they have a boner or a care in the world ePay is not getting a cut of that. In other words, I've seen and placed auctions where I didn't make squat on the item and didn't even make up for it in the shipping. Sell a similar item with free/cheap shipping and people bid it up like crazy. It's just plain stupid some of the behaviors we witness on ePay.

And yeah, that full ST system doesn't even compare to the cost of this A4000. I have a similar setup (520, disk drive and monitor) all boxed (mint condition, but no manuals) if anyone wants it. I'd like to see $100 for the thing plus shipping. Yeah, right. Who's gonna wanna pay to have an ST system shipped to 'em?! Atari ST equipment are like most magazines: not worth the cost of shipping!

Back a few years ago when I was building my SGI collection, I noticed an eBay consortium that pushed SGI prices to absurd levels.  They'd even bump bids into legitimate SGI auctions, just to keep ANY of their focus items from selling too low.  If they accidentally won one from a legit seller, amazingly, that account would have a non-payer negative feedback next month.

As I basically got the SGI items I wanted and kinda drifted from the scene, I don't know if it's still operating like that, or not.  But this could be the start of a similar group for the Amiga.  As mentioned, the trick would be proving it...

Nishtek are good folks.... But honestly what kind of "Paid work" is anyone doing with the Amiga to justify this cost. There must be like a collection of 500 or so whack jobs that purchase every Amiga on ebay no matter the cost. I've heard stories of folks with liike 10 or 15 Amigas. WTF? I mean I love the thing too but come on!

UAE Emulator is REALLY good... Actually better and faster than an A4000 expanded to the hilt. It defies logic.

LOL! Judging by the signature in your message and profile pic you're a memeber of the Whack Job Tribe! I envy you! I sold all but an A1200 and a CD32. At one point I have every model but not all at one time. I'd buy one, sell it, get another, and I used it at work everyday.

Yeah, I have thought of getting rid of everything but big box items and cd32 but with shipping and people complaining of prices and shipping times I gave up the idea. I used to sell on ebay, I have 100% feedback. But ebays new rules do not appeal to me at all. So I guess I will just keep all the stuff.

It's still a buyer's market as far as the Amiga is concerned. I am still amazed at the number of cheapskates in this hobby.
We all like to get the best deal heard of - but that's no way to support the Amiga.
A2000 GVP 40MHz \'030, 21Mb RAM SD/FF, 2 floppies, internal CD-ROM drive, micromys v3 w/laser mouse
