Ronnie Barker passes away

Ronnie Barker dies aged 76

A sad loss to British comedy.

There aren't that many people who can make me laugh in this sometimes wicked world. He will be missed :-(

:-(

It's kinda weird that when I caught some of the Two Ronnies Sketchbook at my mum's house a few months back my first reaction was "I thought Ronnie Barker was dead." He was out of the public eye for so long that I just assumed he was long gone. But on that note, it's more of a human loss than a loss for British comedy.

"The Two Ronnies" was THE comedy show I grew up with.

The character "Fletcher" from Porrige was a happy marriage of comedy genius and brilliant acting.  He was truly a flawed hero that wouldn't have had anywhere near the same charisma had he been played by anyone else.

"Born free.....  'Til somebody caught me....."

Barker was a master of the art of timing, visual gags, delivery and had a fantastic range as an actor.  He was one of the very few comics who could play a role believably straight too.
