Now, and for my question - I happen to have a CD32, and with a bit of luck I'll have a CDTV sometime in the near future, too. Are there any plans to bring these platforms on par with the rest of the MC680x0-based AmigaOS systems?

We left both machines out because we lacked resources (developers) and had to focus our efforts. I own two CDTVs myself (one with upgraded bootroms) and a CD32, but never had the the time to even try 3.1.4 ROMs with either of them. If a buyer reports an A500 ROM working fine with a CDTV, I'll be the first (ok, second ;) ) to cheer.

Just assume we're interested in supporting these machines in the future. The status of the CD32's material is bit uncertain, though. At the end of the Commodore era, some bits and pieces may have gone missing. So no promise here, just willingness.

First, thanks for the flowers, appreciated.

Concerning the CD32: We should have somewhere, deeply hidden in the archive, the sources for the system, but they require some care, review and testing before they could be released. To give you some idea: We had a new exec library ready, but - according to one of our testers - it managed to disable the CD-Rom, without which the CD32 is a bit pointless. It turned out that this is because the CD32 has some even cheaper, but less compatible emulation of the "IDE interface" (which is really only a couple of gates) in one of its custom chips that is not entirely compatible, and the exec hardware detection logic apparently disabled that as a side effect. Even though we made some attempts to fix it, the issue never really went away, and it may require some additional changes in the scsi.device we do not know. So yes, there is certainly willingless, but it is much more of an effort than one might guess.

For the CDTV, the situation is even less rosy. As far as I know, we do not even have the sources anymore, so the question in how far it could be supported. Given that most programs for it were written with the modified 1.3 in mind, it is also questionable in how far this attempt would be worth it. I would expect a couple of compatibility problems at least, so the potential end result is probably less useful than one might hope.

Just installed, and some first impressions....

* The Norwegian locales are horrid. Not the original CBM ones, but all locales that are new look like they are written by someone with seriously lacking knowledge about the Norwegian language.
* The Reboot command is still not installed, why oh why not.
* Cool to see Ed using current console window
* Too much ">NIL:" in the startup-sequence - F.ex. Assign is already quiet, as is Path, if an assign or path fails, wouldn't the user be better off being told so?
* Apparently random use of (redundant) full path to programs in startup-sequence, C:SetPatch instead of just "SetPatch", while BindDrivers gets to be left without C: in front of it.
* Where are the new icons? Are they not part of the release for A1000/A500/A600/A2000?

Dunno about in Viking country.

In Viking country, such "easter egg" agreements are by their very nature void. Also void is any attempt at preventing software from running on hardware by terms of licenses - you can run whatever software you have bought on whatever hardware you own, even if it means modifying the software.

Such a clause in the "EULA" of this OS release is straight out pointless and bewildering.

They probably had to put the clause there due to ongoing disputes. Remember, every cent you give Hyperion or Cloanto goes straight to the pockets of lawyers. The money is not spent evolving the Amiga platform.

Ah, our friend again.

I'm pretty confident that our native norwegian translator will take suggestions. Just make sure to keep the length limits.

If this issue is so dear to you, I might consider it for the next update. Who could resist that bear?

Try to delete a line using del-key. So many little things which should have been done ages ago spread all over the OS.

You missed that, how could you! Posted in three forums and sure soon part of Hyperion AmigaOS3.1.4 FAQ on the website.

Indeed - which I find it it so fulfilling to support this effort - I much rather see lawyers getting the money than the developers. It is refreshing to see that the developers think so too.

Regarding the "clause", if it means what it says, they could just written that one can install it on any system one see fit. The only situation it would make sense to word it such manner, is if Hyperion intends to declare certain earlier versions/distributions of AmigaOS somehow "illegal". To add the confusion, OS 3.1.4 comes with kickstart for emulation use.

It is just too much. I suggest the person takes contact with people or organisations that actually do translations.
For example, the KDE team has some good people, and Språkrådet (the person should know this) offers help for free too, and we have free to use online dictionaries.
Do you have .ct files available? I can rewrite them for you for free, I need to do something about the Workbench menus anyways (random use of uppercase in menu entries, "Leer Zeichen In Kom Po Sita")

The web-frontend to amitools' romtool.py? Last I did anything with it, it worked fine.

Another thing I noticed...
* Serial Prefs still tops at "MIDI speed".

Yes, this was actually different half a year ago. However, Thomas suspected that this setting would be deeply ingrained into relicts of OS1.3 system prefs structures which are still in use, so simply changing the gadget did not suffice. And - as usual - he was right. We'll dig up this pit later.

As i understand: The included filesystem and everything will work with big harddrives from the box..Is there any advantages to use another fs like PFS, if i use the standard ide44 on my amiga 1200?

Both file systems have their advantages and drawbacks. It’s a matter of use case and taste.

Toni added support for HDToolbox’s new direct scsi setting in PFS3, btw.

Edit: And he repaired it for his latest release

Yes. If you do not have a ROM, you can also put this into the RDB of the harddrive, and you *may* have to turn on the DirectSCSI flag in HDToolBox. There are multiple options. Please check the FAQ.

Is there any advantages to use another fs like PFS, if i use the standard ide44 on my amiga 1200?
How can I tell you? FFS is the system 3.1.4 was designed and tested for, including all the tools and utilities like "Format", "HDToolBox" and "Diskdoctor" (yes, the doctor is back, thanks Olaf!). It supports hardlinks and softlinks (now correctly) with all the command line tools provided.

FFS is certainly an archaic file system, and it is not particularly smart, but it should work quite fine.

Not even that is required. It is sufficient to put the FFS into the RDB. HDToolBox can do that for you. Steps are in the FAQ.
