Microvitec 1438

Hi, I have just got a 1438 and it powers up no problem. I always wanted one of these because I believed you could change the res in the prefs and rid yourself of those huge icons using high res.
When I change to any of the others, they all flicker quite bad. Is there something else I have to buy or software I have to use; to use these other modes eg Interlaced etc etc in my Prefs? Otherwise I don't see the point of a multisync over a standard monitor.

The advantage of a multiscan is that it can display 31kHz modes. I.e. 'VGA' modes. The flickering you experience can only be solved with a 'flickerfixer'. :-(

A multisync monitor isn't a flicker fixer on its own. Its advantage is that it can show TV freq (15kHz) signals, and VGA (30kHz+) signals.

So if you throw an interlaced mode at it, it's still going to flicker. But the advantage is, normal (S)VGA monitors can't view these modes, so you can't play old games on them without a scandoubler.

Try DblPAL, Productivity and Euro modes. The monitor drivers should be on your workbench disks or in SYS:Storage/Monitors. Just drag them to SYS:Devs/Monitors, reboot, and select one of the new modes for workbench.

reboot and you will have some other resoultions to try. I think i settled for one that was about 700*500. It has black borders down the left and right but is full hieght and has no flicker at all as it was about 60hz and a nice resolution to use

I thank yee all for your assistance, I have had a doodle about. But even so, I would very much like Super High Res Laced, it is perfect but it flickers. So to get what I want, I take it I need a flicker fixer? Does it have another more technical type name or do I just search for a Flicker Fixer?

Flicker fixers always come with scandoublers - thats how they work. Search for "Scandoubler with flickerfixer". They aren't cheap.

And by the way it'll change the image if its scandoubled - it won't look the same on your monitor. And it's not perfect - when things move sideways you see a little distortion.

Have a search at The Big Book of Amiga HardWare. . . .
Select Graphics (Non RTG) and Video Cards . . . .
Then try the entries called: Flicker-Fixer and/or Scan-Doubler.
There were internal and external models.
