« on: January 19, 2010, 09:08:04 PM »
How much did you pay?

What did it come with?

What store or was it an individual you bought it from?

What year was it?

How old were you?

Purchased a MiniMEG 2meg slap on the side expansion from MAST (I blieve that was the name) for $189 (ram shoooo was expensive back then)
external Roctec Floppy $125
Used Amiga 1000 external floppy off of usenet $60.
This machine was purchased becuase the Mac lab at school was always packed and the macs ran Pagemaker super sllooowwwwwwwwwww. It would take up to a minute to update a simple black and white vector drawing.
My A1000 connected to a TV and the above setup running pagestream was fast a second or so (less) to update the same vector art.

Wow - $150 was CHEAP, even in '89, but I remember people ditching their A1000's quickly after the 500. I forgot to ask something else important... where did you get the machine from? A store or private individual?

And yeah, RAM was expensive back then, but $189 for 2mb sounds really reasonable compared to just a couple years before that. Expansion was ALWAYS (still is obviously) expensive for the A1000. Thanks for sharing Crom! Always neat to hear about comparative uses back in the day.

I purchased my Amiga at the stores toursists were warned about in NYC. The kind that sell luggage, porcelain kats, cameras and computers. They had 2000's, 500's etc. The A1000 was the floor model but in great shape.

The sales guy was an old timer... I don't think he really knew what it was...I old him it's been discontinued since 1986 and replaced by the newer A2000 and A500. It didn't help that it was nestled between a commodore 128d and c64 floor models. Funny how the A1000 had this bad rep as being outdated but the only difference was 512k agnus. I went fro the A1K to A2k, A3k, A4000 030/ CDTV/ cd32/ A3000T/ A4000 warp engine/ A4000 micronik tower/ CSppcwith VC64/ to Escom A400 tower to A1200 (purchased after Bill McSpewens appearance on Tech TV) to A1200 $40 deal of the century to MiniMig)

Didn't get a deal that good until I picked up a pristine MIB A1200 with CPU card for $40 used from craigslist in 07.
