WB 3.0 HDD Install
« on: October 26, 2009, 09:10:27 AM »
Hi all,

I am going to replace the old style 85MB HDD in my A1200 with an 4GB CF Card HDD. I have seen that I need an disk called "install" but when I got the 1200 with the full WB set, there was just 5 disks. Isn't the Install disk a part of the official WB 3.0 release?

And where can I get some extra RAM for my 1200? I have checked on the net, but it seems difficult to find...

If you don't have the install disk , you could try buying it from ebay or something or else download an ADF of it and use adf2disk or something to write it to a floppy disk .

With regards to extra ram , it depends on how much you want to spend , but your best option is to buy a good accelerator card like the Blizzard 1230 and simply add cheap pc simms . You can go as far as 64 or im not sure 128Mb .

There was  3.0 Install disks about but were only usually given to machines that officially had a hard disk in side (A1200HD machines for example). Oh and the A4000 had them too as a rule. Sadly they are not too easy to come by, but theres a guy on eay UK who regually sells off these sorts of disks, If you give me a mo. I can get info for you...

[EDIT] Ok look for eBay user "Airey36", he usually is pretty helpful with these sorts of things (has helped me in the past).

Tokyoracer:

That explains it then :) I bought an A1200 with HDD, but the seller put in the HDD as an extra, so the original WB set I got was the one for the A1200 w/o HDD. I bought both an A1200 and an A600 + some other things from Airey36, so I guess I will just write him and see if he can help me :)

Dougal:

I have seen some of those cards, but the are quite expensive :S But then again I have just looked on ebay. Do you know any other places where they might have those cards for an reasonable price? :)

Yes , i would expect them to cost around 150 Euros give or take .

If you are in no rush there are bargains to be found , but not very often . The first one i bought costed me around 115 euros and the second one , i bought a second hand boxed Amiga Technologies A1200HD for 50 euros and found a nice surprise when i opened the trap door :)

But honestly , you really do get what you pay for as the speed increase especially in workbench is incredible .

I got an Amiga Tec. 1200HD cheap too with loads of other nice goodies, (8Mb RAM/RTC/FPU card, Goliath PSU, CF transfer kit, Pink Zipstik, new Comp. Pro controller Pad, loads of books, disks and loads more). It's even as white as an American supermodel's teeth!
Odd thing was that the auction (buy it now) was far from assuring as there was no picture but was well worth the risk! Think it was £100 including P+P.
