Testing a "new" BBoAH
« on: February 03, 2009, 11:16:31 PM »
Hi @ all,

I'm testing a PHP-based software for the BBoAH. I would like to hear what you think about. The "look" is not ready and searching by manufacturer not available. You can switch between German/English down on the left side.

I had a feeling something was up behind the scenes at BBoAH :-)

I like the concept. As you've said, though, it needs some cleanup. Works in IBrowse, though, so that's a big perk.

My main suggestion on usability would be the ability to switch languages by clicking a link rather than using a dropdown menu. Alternatively, a direct English (or direct German) URL would be nice.

(Also the PDF output is a little mangled)

Thanks for putting in the effort on this. Looking forward to the next revision.

To be brutally honest, I much preferred the old look!

I use the site all the time for the last few years for referencing all types of hardware, and it really is so great to have all that information in one great, well layed out resource.  But the new site actually looks older in my opinion.

Sorry!!

Fancy changing it back?  :-D

Hi Matt_H and Tension,

my "plan" is to start a english-default version on bboah.com with the old black&white look.

As you see in the new I tried to make it look like the one at www.bboah.de. Thats what I want for www.bboah.com, too. The .com bboah will start with english language.

At this moment I'm trying to change the CSS-color-changing to html, so that it will vbe possible to change the look to whatever is needed. :-)

@ Tension

The new looks quite old because of compability to IBrowse and AWeb. What you don't see is the ability to make updates much faster as it was possible with the old one.

If someone is able to "deCSS" a newer version of the soft he is welcome to work with me to get a new, good-looking BBoAH.

I've been looking the last year for a software that is easier to use and only found this. If someone knows a better soft he's welcome.

Regards
novamann

With new page, I don't like that when you scroll long page down (some product description for example), then you can't go to different category without scrolling page back up. Frames on old page worked much better with that. What's this new frameless trend nowadays anyway? Doesn't seem to suit on all pages or some big re-design would be needed.

Also old tables looked more clear and fresh in product lists. Maybe you should add different colored tables for those if not the old border style tables. But I guess it's the unfinished look still :)

Since the new site is unfinished it is perhaps a little unfair for me to comment, but I do find it more difficult to navigate than the old site. :-)

Hi,
I think buttons would make it easier (left Link-side). But there are a lot things I can not do because I am no "Coder" :-?

I had to put in data "by hand". Now let's see what can be changed.

Still too mch scrolling. It's just one frame where you keep loss of track of everything (most importantly the categories menu). Why not make a framed site like the current one, and combine that with the php/database stuff? It will be much easier and friendlier to use....

Something like this site uses: http://www.amiga4ever.nl/

PS
Did you ever had a look at RAM expansions or SCSI Controllers on the Old? Why not using the BACK button at the browser?

Hi,
not really.

He is living his own life, that is why I'm trying to manage the BBoAH.
