Anyone here have a 3D printer?
« on: June 08, 2015, 09:15:37 PM »
Does anyone here have a 3D printer?

I would like to know if there is interest in getting someone with a 3D printer to make some replacement A3000 floppy drive covers?

I test some 3D Printers for my magazine, Planete Robots.
If you have a stl file about this part, it's easy to print them.

@ Darth_X

Someone may have already made those... not certain. Search around, hopefully they're out there!

Personally, I'm waiting for some A4000T tower feet... ;)

EDIT: Hang on, re-reading - do you already have the 3D model and just need them produced?

While Screetch has already said that he could print 3D items, if you want 3D printing but don't have access to a printer yourself then ponoko.com has 3D printers that you can use for a fee. They can also 3D print metal, and laser cut a whole heap of different materials.

I believe SkydivinGirl over @ AmiBay has already done this for the A4000.

This dear lady is your side of the pond too.

I also understand there are some 3D Printing services available online.

A3000T and A4000T feet would be great!

I have an A3000 without a drive cover and I would like one. However, I don't want to pay more than $20 US$ (including mailing cost) for it.

I don't have a model for it, but it looks like it would be one of the more simple and low cost things that could be done with a 3D printer. I mean, if someone has a 3D printer that is sitting around not getting enough use.. here is a use for it! Make some $$$ too!

3D printing is more than just having the printer. Also, the act of ABS/PLA extrusion 3D printing is still hit & miss. I have a FlashForge Dreamer and I have never had a print article work the first time. Come to think of it, not even the second time.

3D laser lithography keeps coming down in price and has higher yield rates.

Interesting.  I have a little 3D printer and was thinking the same thing about the drive covers for the A3000.  The trick (well, outside of the is getting a proper 3D model) is getting the proper color filament. (In my case, a very yellowed, in need of retr0brite tint. haha)

Are new A1000 FDD hard to get?
I would like to see a new face plate for an A1000 that works with A1200 or square faced Floppy drives.

Not wanting to get too off-topic here, but there's a build-it yourself 3D-printer partwork here in the UK.

The good news is that the 3D printer uptake is going to go up at the point when the partwork is complete... The bad news is that point will be 74 weekly issues away :(

Found it! Not a free print-it-yourself model, but not too expensive either.

I want this mainly for retrocomputing purposes.
