Oh GOD! I see why so many people have so many problems installing a larger than 4Gb hard drive in an Amiga!
The most stable setup to use is the Amiga FFS! You cannot use the 3.0 install disks however! (Someone actually noticed this point) What you first need is a set of 3.1 disks. Then change the file system on a backup copy of the install disk to TD64. From that point you easily partition and format the drive.
You MUST get a CD-ROM drive ASAP, so you can get to OS 3.9.
But the OS 3.1 disks is your first step.
Good luck
A2000 GVP 40MHz \'030, 21Mb RAM SD/FF, 2 floppies, internal CD-ROM drive, micromys v3 w/laser mouse
A1000 Microbotics Starboard II w/2Mb 1080, & external floppy (AIRdrive)
C-128 w/1571, 1750, & Final Cartridge III+

I've sent it and one day later I received a message that your email provider doesn't accept attachments.

Do you have an alternate email address?

Installing BIG DRIVE in A1200 - RESUME
« Reply #47 on: July 21, 2005, 05:47:59 AM »
So there is a little resume.

You will need:
- 3.1 disks (6 pieces of thar)
- scsi43_23.lha (loadv43module a000.ld.strip reboot)
- patchstrip.lha (timecheck patch for scsi43)
- SFS.lha (forget damn FFS)
- HDInst.lha (HDInstTools 6.9)
- check4gb.lha (not necessary)

1. Make one partition (i think 200mb is sufficient) and install 3.1 wb
2. unpack scsi43_23 archive and add "loadv43module a000.ld.strip reboot" at first line of s:startup-sequence
3. patch thar beta varning "patchstrip a000.ld.strip a000.ld.patched"
4. some renaming: a000.ld.strip > a000.ld.beta, a000.ld.patched > a000.ld.strip
5. replace hdtoolbog with unpacked hdinsttools
6. unpack snartfilesystem archive sfs.lha
7.  add filesystem SFS/0 from l: smartfilesystem with hdinsttools
8. partitioning drive
9. unpack check4gb.lha and chech your miggy. you must see YES  OK on teh last two columns (BIG and status?)
10. Now you can go to pub... (not necessary) or install software on your hd as you want

amen

P.S. If there is any error please correct me :)

Typical, Google is showing nothing for it now  :pissed: , although I found it twice the other day !
I did find a page with scsi_ide v43.24 amongst other things. From the readme, it's just 43.23 but with a bit more timeout on the device recognition.

Edit..
Just found scsi_ide 43.23, FFS v40.20 ,setpatch 43.6 etc
On schedule, and suing

I have problems with using all of my 60gb HD. Got Kickstart 3.0 with Workbench 3.1 running ontop of it. I didnt get loadv43module to work as it should.

I have used NSDpatch, so now HDinstTools sees all of my 3 SFS partitions.

But still it only finds 8gb out of 60gb.

I love and respect people which care! And not those with
a heart made of stone.

The latest archives can be found here: http://os.amigaworld.de/index.php?lang=de&page=37

It's not necessary to use 3.1 disks, you can use any WB version from 2.0 up to 3.1 and any Kickstart version from 2.0 up to 3.1 (with the Kickstart version being higher than or equal to the Workbench version).

LoadV43Module only works with Kickstart 3.1, but you can use Thor's LoadModule which works on any Kickstart version.

This has recently been discussed on a german forum. If you understand german, you can follow this guide: http://thomas-rapp.homepage.t-online.de/bighdd/index.html

Bye,
Thomas
