AmigaKit Buffered Interface speed issues
« on: October 30, 2022, 02:42:29 PM »
I'm hoping more knowledgeable people can help.

I've been slowly reviving my towered A1200 system. After discovering my old buffered IDE interface had died, almost taking the mechanical HD with it, I decided to buy AmigaKits buffered IDE interface with the Fast IDE adaptor (as much as I wanted Elbox's FastATA I couldn't quite justify the price at this point in time).

I was also able to recover and image the HD and copy it to a CF card (thankfully I don't believe any of my stuff was lost - so many memories!).

I believe I've installed the required software and the Gayle adaptor correctly and have set the speed as PIO mode 4, but according to SysInfo (v4.4) I am only getting around 800-900ishKB/sec, which cant be correct given my system specs - I know I'm not going to reach 16MB/sec, but no way should it be less than 1MB !

My system is an A1200, Apollo 060 @ 66MHz, 64MB Ram, OS3.9 with BB2 running on 3.1 ROMs, IDEFix97, 16GB CF card as HD with CF going to the 44pin connector on the interface and CDRW on first 40Pin slot (system is also equipped with mediator with Voodoo 3, Network & Sound card).

Any help or hints would be gratefully appreciated !

Cheers

Also one spare unworking bare A1200

its a little odd, how I'm getting speeds less than I should with the set-up I have (and around what I would have thought the 020 would have driven everything), but some things do feel a little snappier when I'm using the system and opening and closing stuff...

Is their any other software I could use to speed test the IDE speeds I am getting? (Just in case their is something with my set-up that is just not playing nice with Sysinfo).
