Alan Redhouse on the AmigaOne Coupon promotion
« on: July 19, 2002, 09:45:25 PM »
Alan Redhouse has just posted this very interesting text on ANN.LU

Quote
I cannot speak for other dealers, but we will certainly be giving priority of shipment to purchasers of the club/voucher scheme. In the first manufacturing run we will build more A1's than the number of vouchers sold, but not a huge amount more. If the demand from non-voucher holders is high there may be a significant delay in fulfilling their orders.

Not long to go, better get that order in now!

How about those like me who took part in the Party Pack offer? We made our committment to buy about a year ago, do we get to the head of the queue (cos we sure didn't get no updates)?

I'm not sure if these are for the Party Pack or not, but there have been updates ... labeled as "SDK Updates".  Look at the following URL - SDK Updates
NOTE: It requires your Amiga Development Network (ASN) or Developer ID and password.

The Party Pack is an Amiga thing, even though Eyetech are participating in this new scheme, AFAIK they have nothing to do with the original offer.

This is all about AmigaOne's which  is Eyetech's baby.

Sorry, Party Pack purchasers are only entitled to Party Pack updates of which (I believe, please correct me if I'm wrong) there have been none. However, there is also a discount against an A1 or OS4, but how this is to happen no-one as yet knows.

As far as I know Eyetech also have nothing to do with the coupon offer, they are not acting as a reseller through their site as some German dealers are.

Exactly. Party Pack buyers get OS4 and OS4.2 for
free.

It seems logical at first - Eyetech can only make so many boards, since overproduction would be suicide. Those who didn't buy coupons and want an A1/OS4 are a bit like people who turn up at an exclusive hotel and want a room the same night.

But I agree with Loki1. Despite being cloaked by some careful wording, this statement is still basically a threat. I don't like being pushed into purchases, not matter what the reason. Why should people be penalised for exercising free will? Maybe that's just the price of being part of such a small user base - but even so, I question everything.

Although cynical, it seemed to work though - maybe 200 vouchers were sold since that statement - about 25% of the full sale.

I hope this doesn't set a precedent.

@KennyR
I would rather think that Vesalia/KDH jsut transfered their sales.
1. Make an announcment.
2. Wait a while.
3. Check if it can actually be done.
4. Wait for someone else to do it.
5. Start working on it while giving out hillarious progress-reports.
6. Deny that you have ever announced it
7. Blame someone else

I can understand the idea of giving the coupon buyers more rights. But also I can understand Loki about this. It is indeed, being pushed in a corner. And trust me, if you do not have the coupon and you want to buy an A1, your on the bottom of the list.
