Title: My Amiwest show photos online.
Post by: redrumloa on July 31, 2003, 08:39:14 PM
Not quite worthy of a news submission i must say, most of my pictures were terrible and were deleted :-(  These are the ones that came out so-so.
Amiwest (http://www.anachronismindustries.com/amiwest)

And if you are interested, while i was in the area I visited Old Sacramento and San Fransisco.
Old Sacramento (http://anachronismindustries.com/old/)
San Fransisco (http://www.anachronismindustries.com/SF)

Enjoy! If you have any questions, just ask by pic name.

Nice pictures! But some of them was kind of small and blurry (which makes it kind of difficult to see).

Anyway, what was that globe thingy (amiwest5.JPG) with the text inside?

None taken. Actually under more ideal situations it takes much better pictures. The Amiwest ones were pretty much all indoor in terrible lighting conditions. The outdoor pictures are fantastic though. The pictures of the GG bridge are great, I have shrunk them and put through jpg compression that distorts it a bit though.

Yeah most of them were even worse than that and had to be deleted. The ones I did save i made small enough to see but not big enough to waste major bandwidth:-P

It's pretty neat. You can program it to display text or GFX(depending on model) with a computer. He had single color models and 8 color models. The software is Windows only AFAIK though. MOS native software would be neat;-)

Hmm dosent the camera have manual focus? Seems like it is the auto focus that has problems in dark places.

Anyway, nice car on the pic  :-)

@seer:

It's not a holographic display, inside the globe is a PCB with a vertical row of LEDs that spins very fast while the LEDs are toggling in a synchronized pattern, so the persistence of vision in your eyes makes it look like there are pictures floating in the air.  It looks pretty good, actually.  Unfortunately, it's a bit pricey (I think the guys selling them said something about $2000 for the fancier, 8-colour model).

Yeah, really! I didn't know our standards were so high around here.   ;-) The Old Sacramento pictures were pretty neat. I've driven between SF and Redding (up north near Mt. Shasta), where my mother lives, a number of times but always took the highway that cuts the corner to I-5 instead of going into Sacramento. Always heard it was California's armpit but at least the old town around the river looks pretty nice. Who are the guys next to the locomotives? And I would guess that's greenboy in the somewhat fuzzy  http://anachronismindustries.com/amiwest/amiwest9.JPG (http://anachronismindustries.com/amiwest/amiwest9.JPG)?

Yes that is a fuzzy greenboy.

The guys next to the locomotives? That would be Cybereye (http://anachronismindustries.com/old/old7.JPG) and me (http://anachronismindustries.com/old/old8.JPG).

Use that pic as your avatar.  You may get more recognition at future shows.

@CodeSmith,

It looks pretty good, actually.

Yeah.. I can see how a RTS game could benefit from this, not to mention 3D gfx and stuff.. (Offcourse if the update speed of the leds is fast enough)

Unfortunately, it's a bit pricey (I think the guys selling them said something about $2000 for the fancier, 8-colour model).

Well, with most tech, it will get cheaper I hope.. I'll start checking Ebay  :-D
