| July 10, 2012, 04:39:01 AM This is the motherboard that I am installing in my new Amiga 500 Tower. It is a revision 6.
I will be doing the following to this board:
- Clean the board
- Replace 68000 cpu with higher quality ceramic version
- Solder four 20-pin ic sockets and four .01 uF capacitors
- plug into the 4 new sockets four German-made 44256 DRAMs
- Cut trace near Agnus chip
- Locate the thru-holes connected to those pads
- solder 3 wires to those thru-holes and a spdt switch to the 3 wires
- Unsolder all of the main capacitors
- Replace those capacitors with high quality Nichicon capacitors
- Replace the 2 caps in the audio circuit with Nichicon audio caps
- Reseat all socket chips
When this work is complete, I will upload an "after" picture. The SPDT switch is so I can switch between 512k chip ram and 1 meg chip ram. Most classic Amiga games run the best on 512k chip / 512k fast ram setup, so this will be the default. But, I also love to play Amiga MOD music, and some mods require 1 meg of chip ram. Since most classic Amiga games work the best with Kickstart 1.3, I will not change it. There is a high quality Kickstart 1.3 rom, made by NEC, already plugged into the kickstart rom socket. |
