Hello All
Long time i was coming back on the amiga.org :)
I have a questions regarding the disk drive integrated from the A1200 .
I have put my a1200 mother board in a infinity case and i have some trouble with the look like ide cable for the disk drive .
Its too short i cant use the original one .
So my first idea was to use a simple one from a PC :((
but look like its not working nothing possible to read from the drive with a pc disk drive cable .
Anyone know if amiga disk drive accept PC cable for connection ??
And if not is there any possibility to make that my external drive take the place of the internal .
I mean that the amiga use it like it was the bootable drive .
Any help is welcome and long live to the Amiga PPC

Yes it`s possible.
i have one my self, a standard floppy cable.
Er, have you put the cable in back-wards?
or connected the power supply? :-D

Hello
thx for the answer
yes i am sure from all i have try different cable .
I was thinking its the size to long and it lose data or so .
That is very strange i will make a couple of test with the normal litle cable and try back .
Is there not any way to make my external drive work like it was the internal ?? in the eprom menu or ?

Yes , you can rename the external drive as df0;
and rig up a interface, but why?
( oh , you mean to remove it from the housing? yes)
My floppy cable is 40cm long!
(shorter is better!) :-D

Hello
I am busy to check to see where to rename df1 to df0 to let me be able to use the df1 external drive like it was the internal one df0.
To let me be able to boot with a game for exemple on the df1 like it was dfo .
But i not see where i can modify that and when i boot the erpom menu i cant modify df1 to df0 :(
Any one know where i need to make this change OS 3.9 ?

:-? Have you tried the early startup menu? Hold down both mouse buttons at boot-up to access the early startup menu, then select the drive you wish to boot from. If I recall correctly, you can boot from any drive mounted, including DF1:, DF2:, etcetera.
:-) Good luck!

AFAIK you can just stick an extra external diskdrive in the diskdrive port (duh) and boot from it....

Certainly at least AmigaOS 2.0+ can boot from any floppy drive. I can't remember if KS 1.2/1.3 allowed this, IIRC not.
Anyhow, even if you can start the loading from df1: the game/demo might still use direct hardware banging to do further disk reading. If this happens the demo/game will try to load from df0: and if the drive is not present or has no disk, the demo/game loading will fail.
AmigaOS legal games/demos will load from other disk drives ok.

Is the floppy disk bootable?
Anyway, you can use the ASSIGN command.
assign df0: df1:
in the startup-sequence.
As for the hardware try this site. But i was sure that the cable was in bacwards...
Have another look, see if any pins are bent.
I suppose that the floppy is dead...(unlikely) :-D

hello
just for info :)) i have located the problem .
I have try back the disk drive with the original cable and it was working .
So i have put back a pc disk drive cable and it was no more working correctly :(( .
So after that i have change the position of the drive on the disk drive cable .
Many pc cable have 3 connection one for the mother board and 2 for 2 disk drive .
When i have put the disk drive on the first one after the mother board connection the drive was working correctly :)
Again thx for all your support :)
Litle question on the same time :))
I see on the A1200 mother board one IDE connection for the HD
one connection for the Disk drive .
But i see also litle be up from the both Roms another connection like IDE or disk drive .
What is this third connection on the mother board ??
