Amiga OS
« on: August 04, 2021, 11:42:26 PM »
I am trying to get my Amiga's working again after a long time away due to serving ...   I am in need of 3.1 or 3.5 or 3.9 install disks but I can't seem to find them available anymore, anywhere.

Where can we get the old Amiga OS versions?   I realize the new Amiga OS 4.x stuff is only for the new Amiga hardware and can only be had by buying it but there has to be a source for us to get the older OS's that Commodore released which are now abandonware being they went out of business.

Anyone help on this one?
Take it light...... :-D

First, where are you? Several stores to check, maybe one near you.

New Disks and ROM's, from 1.2 on, Here 'https://amigastore.eu/'. 3.5 &3.9 are only google downloads, Hague & partner were not treated well, Amiga Inc never paid, and are no longer partners.

And just a quick remark about your "abandonware" statement.

Just because the original manufactor has died, it doesn't necessarily mean that all they produced is suddenly up for grabs for free.

Think about the stores that offer these products today (like the link above), they have invested real money in buying them earlier and having them in store for years in order to offer them to you today.

Best regards,

@Malakie

Amiga Forever Plus Edition by Cloanto will provide you with all Workbench 1.x up to 3.x versions, including preconfigured hard disk files and ADF images.

@Gryfon:

That's not correct. The OP is seeking 3.5 and 3.9, neither of which are on Amiga Forever.

I could make a link here to the 3.9 iso over at archive dot org, but it’s probably better that you search for it there yourself.

I would recommend to get a more recent AmigaOS 3.2 that has been released in 2021 and features many updates, fixes and new functions.

Fortunately I still have 3.5 & 3.9 so when I get get 3.2 I will see if any nice parts of 3.9 will work with 3.2  8)

Thanks for the replies..

But now I have another problem..   I REV 6 motherboard.   I changed the rom to a 3.1 version.   Now when I install any OS older than 2.04, workbench loads up fine from FLOPPY but oddly only loads a blank screen from HD?!?    Basically it loads to workbench but displays no icons and no menus....

In all the years, I have never seen this before.  Even copying the disks to the HD manually from the working floppy, no change.    This one is completely making no sense to me..  And why it would load fine from the floppy device but not the HD device?    But if I then revert back to 2.04 or older, everything is fine again...

At first I thought the rom I bought was bad... but then why would it work with floppy disks of the same OS version?

Any ideas on this one?

Hmm. I'm no expert, but could this be related to icon.library?

Maybe you should verify version of your icon library on HDD? You can boot from floppy and type "version DH0:/libs/icon.library" assuming DH0: is your boot HDD i.d..

Actually, I think I figured out what is going on..  I ordered this from AmigaStore.eu and apparently this kickstart ROM they sent me only works for WB 2.04 or OLDER.   It won't even run WB 2.05 without showing the kickstart error now.

So now, I need to get them to answer my emails to get this resolved...  and so far they have been VERY hard to contact.

Such thing does not exist.

You probably ordered Cloanto's 3.X ROM. It requires workbench.library as a file on disk. Most older ROMs had this library in ROM and didn't require it as a file.

You can download the file from there: http://www.amigaforever.com/classic/download/
