Sonofabitch....I just paid Majsta $10 more for this, from the waitlist.  And, since his country is on the Department of Homeland Security redlist, it'll take almost a month for it to clear customs here in the US.  I would have ordered from Amigakit if I would have known this was coming...and had it in 10 days.

Wasn't sure why mine took so long, but figured something like this.
Surprised by Amigakit selling these although it does make sense.

@Jeff if there were no pre-orders none of this would ever happen.

Then perhaps the "allocated" units could have been sent out first to the people that paid more and paid in advance. It seems like it could have been handled much better.

I know it shouldn't bug me but it does...can we stop referring to these new Vampire add-on FPGA cards as 'Accelerators'.

An Amiga Accelerator in the traditional sense means a faster CPU and some RAM whereas the latest Vampire board is basically an FPGA computer so referring to it as a simple 'Accelerator' is massively understating its capabilities and the development that has gone into the Vampire boards and the Apollo core.

I can see by other forum posts that a lot of Amiga users can't seem to recognize the conceptual difference between an old Blizzard 1230 and a Vampire Mrk2... which is akin to comparing Apples with very moldy oranges.  I think a large part of this confusion is caused by calling them Accelerators.

Maybe the term "accelerator" needs to evolve, unless a single-word or catchy phrase replacement can be introduced.

ISTR "accelerator" is a short name for "CPU accelerator."  Maybe "system accelerator" more accurately describes the basic functionality of the Vampire, though that could still be confusing in the popular usage.

At the moment, with the current official core, it is just an accelerator with RTG (similar to a BPPC+BVision combo, for example).
Its certainly not a whole computer, as its completely useless without an Amiga to provide all the rest.

When AGA and 16-bit sound are added in the next core release, it will be an accelerator with RTG, flicker-fixer and sound-card all in one.

The fact all the above sit on the same board, being an all-in-one product, doesnt make it anything different.

By your logic, a Picasso IV with all its addons (audio, flicker-fixer, tuner, etc) is not a 'graphics card'.

i would discuss that. amiga accelerators frequently provided additional features, such a mass storage interface or even pci/rtg interface. which all can be considered further aspects of system acceleration wholesale.

in this respect, and in a lack of tetter word, i dont see anything inappropriate or understating vampire capatibilities in calling it "accelerator". we could call it expansion, but it would also become inappropriate with a standalone system. i think, important is that no harm is meant. thats what matters.

Great news! I hope you'll bring some stock of these and the A2000 adapters to Amiwest. Put me down for one. Just don't leave them in the car when you stop for In and Out burgers.

It seems even more strange that you post to derail this thread. Besides everyone seems to enjoy believing what ever rumors they are told.
