AmigaOS.net gets a face lift
Hello Amiga users past and present
After feedback from many in the Amiga Community, the team at AmigaOS.net have taken all your suggestions on-board to deliver a truly unique experience.
We'd like to announce that AmigaOS.net has undergone a complete face lift to give a completely new look and feel.
Visitors will now be greeted with a Workbench style layout and design.
There have been plenty of changes 'under-the-hood' especially in the download area and news pages to allow us to add new content more frequently and easily.
Over the course of the next couple of months there will be more much video content added to the website thanks to the arrival of a Sam 460ex Complete System at the AmigaOs.net 'office'; subsequently more software will be appearing in the download section.
A quick reminder you can submit your own software to the site using the web form inside the Apps section of the website. Please be aware that AmigaOS.net reserves the right to accept or decline any application; we are looking exclusively for modern software that has some real end-user use with a complimentary look and feel of a modern hardware platform.
* Sorry, but we will not accept shell programs as they are clearly not applications in the modern sense.
--
There are however a couple of known layout problems we are trying hard to address, but we chose not to delay bringing the new website to you any further.
* Priority: Lightbox Overlay width issue (all browsers affected)
* Minor: All content flush left (opera only)
I do hope you all enjoy the look and feel of the new site, regardless of the Lightbox issue which will be remedied as soon as possible.
If you have any feedback positive or negative, please PM me on this forum or alternatively contact us on info@amigaos.net.
Thank you

While the site new look is neat it's pretty slow at drawing the pages on my Safari browser here (is it only running on chipmem)... :)
PS:who suddenly decided and made the ruling that a shell app is no longer classed as an application ???

new site looks great Richard! thanks & congrats:)
btw, I gotta agree with Franko in that using the shell is quite second nature to me

Very nice, very profesional. But you still have not specified it's OS4 only. And you aught to! Otherwise you get OS3 die hards like Franko showing their mugs (ok, and me...~OS 3 all the way baby!)
-
Mines pretty slow too. Now that i mentioned it has anyone noticed Amiga.org being a bit slow lately?
P.S. Where is the Amiga.org link at the bottom?

He's way too late for that the minute I saw the word AmigaOS, I was here like a shot thinking it was about the real Amiga OS... :)
Still it is a very nicely done site so I wasn't too harsh on him... ;)

well as I'm both a OS3 and OS4 'diehard' I see no problem in not stating the obvious

Looks nice.

Still no link to Amiga.org on this site.

Somehow I doubt there ever will be.

Very nice site.

Than what are they?

The different is clearly obvious if you stop to think for a moment. Application programs have a GUI, Shell program do not.
The best Shell programs will be given a mention in the adjoining Wiki where they will feel more at home. My SAM 460ex arrives next week, I haven't used the Amiga Operating System since 1997 so I'll have some catching up to do.
I will be not drawn into the debate about OS3 vs OS4 as its illogical to me. Everyone is entitled to use and enjoy a prior version of an operating system, for sure it appeals to some and there is nothing wrong with that, but technology moves ever forward - some good, some bad, things we don't agree with, but time doesn't stand still.

Shell programs can also be applications. Having a GUI is not what makes a program an application.

^ This.

Why does the Hyperion OS seem to attract those who can't code and struggle to understand basic competing terminology such as yourself? You are far from the only one and like most of the others you apparently haven't even used an Amiga since Escom went bust.
What was that for? Do you think you can go one day and not insult someone and act like a complete twat?
I notice you took down your Amiga Iran os5 banner. What did they do give you a funny look?

A shell program/utility IS AN APPLICATION, just cos a piece of software doesn't have GUI and you actually have to type to use it, then that doesn't relegate it to the realms of obscurity and it suddenly no longer becomes an app... :(
Methinks some folk these days are either becoming too lazy or dumb to use a computer unless everything they do has to be done with a mouse click... gawd... :(

I write shell scripts to do fun things like replace config files and put shortcuts to them on the Home screen of my Android tablet!
-
Wow, one is never to old to learn something new. The terminal apps I'm using like links2, mplayer, rtorrent, mc, moc, centerim, tmux, nano, screen, imagemagick, packing/unpackung stuff (just to name a few examples) are not really apps
I can do everything I want in a shell/terminal without ever using a GUI.
What a joker, Nicholas is right on the money.

Like work its OK but for the amiga is useless.

Did you just say Amiga DOS is useless?
-
wow, what a nice looking site!
i can see lots of work went into it.
some pages have text which is "just" a bit light and makes it hard for people with older eyes to read easily. Aside from that it's quite nicely laid out

If you just talk about amigaos from 4.0 to present it is. Make a site ignoring pre 4.0 and classic hardware (real amigas) is not the best for the amiga.
But i recognice the work on that page.
