Thank you, Robert - nice shots!

I was (with my above question) specifically wondering how Tim introduced Kiki, and what the reaction of the room was like when she appeared.

It seems to have been something of a surprise.

Best regards,

Niels

Oops, sorry.  I've been so busy with videos and photos that I forgot about the notes on Tim.  I will try to get to them today.

I had sent her a message saying that her good friend, Tim, was showing up, but whether she saw that is message is questionable.  However, when she actually appeared, I was surprised and I think others were surprised, too, because she had never spoken publicly at any other recent Amiga events.

Here is what Tim and Kiki said.  (I've added context clues.)

----------------------------------------

(After Tim Jenison showed a 1994 photo of the Video Toaster team...)

Tim: Kiki was instrumental in helping us promote the Toaster.  Here she is at this thing we called the “swing set”.  It was a triangular framework of tubes… pipes… sort of like a swing set without any swings on it… and built strong enough to hold those monitors.

And Kiki would sit there continuously through a trade show – we’d call her, “Miss Ironpants” – and promote the Toaster. (audience laughter)

Now one of the first jobs Kiki had… she joined before the Toaster shift… We went to a Commodore show in Cologne, Germany, and we showed the Toaster, even though it didn’t work in the PAL system.  We decided to show it just to make them crazy… they, you know, never forgave us.  But… who can we  get caught up like this?  Anyway at this show in Cologne, we go, “Just stand up and talk about the Toaster,” and Kiki stood up and started talking about the Toaster in German… like she could speak German! (audience laughter)

(To the audience) Has everybody here seen the Revolution tape?  How many haven’t seen the Revolution tape?  O.K., I’m going to to play at least a part of it here.  If it works…  (The video doesn’t play.)  Aw.  O.K.. Well, that’s basically the end of the story right there. (audience laughter)

So, Kiki?

Kiki: Yes?

Tim: Will you join me here?  We’ll chat for a little bit.

Kiki: I completely will join you.

Tim: Grab a microphone. (audience applause)

Bill Borsari: He’s got much better technology than we do.

Kiki: (as she puts on wireless mic) So, I need this, too?  Oh, my God, this takes me back.

Audience voice: Speak in German!

Kiki: (speaks some German which I cannot transcribe) That’s exactly how I did it, by the way. (audience laughter)

Tim: Das ist PAL?

Kiki: (laughs, repeats Tim’s words) Das ist PAL. (speaks some more German which I cannot transcribe) … und hier ist Lightwave 3D von Alan Hastings… Alan Hastings.  That’s literally how I did it. (audience laughter) (Kiki laughs.) So, what you don’t know is that 3 days after I was hired by Newtek, we flew to Cologne, Germany, and that was my beginning.

Thanks, Robert! So Kiki was already in the audience, just not expected to say anything until Tim invited her up?

Best regards,

Niels

She arrived towards the end of dinner and had conversations with many people before the dinner presentations.  She was not listed as being a dinner speaker, so it was a surprise when Tim invited her to speak in front of everybody.
