Title: Can i get on the net with an amiga with Ethernet card?
Post by: jump2bnaked on September 26, 2003, 10:56:02 PM
I own a Draco and have been very happy for it.
I intended to get ont the internet with it .To my greatest suprise, it looks like, well,    It's ugly.
I am running WB3.9 on the Draco. I have an ariadne ii card in the Draco, with its software installed.
I have follwed the istructions  on the OS 3.9 cd rom but i just can't get it to work.
To come to the point. I already have a ADSL connected to the pc and a network card that works very well. It took me a couple of minutes to configure windowsXP to get on the net. Now i'm trying to do the same thing on the AmigaOS and the whole thing seems to be a tug of war.
Anybody has an idea of getting an Amiga on the net through ethernet card?

It could work with either Miami or Genesis, but
Miami is the only current stack which supports
DHCP. Basically unless you have static IPs or
are using a router I think Miami(Dx) is your best
option..

You can find MiamiDx on aminet (aminet.net), it's
only a demoversion which times out after 30 mins,
but still fully functional. Genesis is a great program
but unfortunately very limited with certain things.

I have my Amiga 1200 connected to ADSL via PCMCIA Network card,Miami and a router, took only minutes to set it up and get it working.

I have my Amiga, wifes laptop and my AmigaOne all connected simultaneously.... which is nice!

I co-wrote a feature in Total Amiga magazine on how to do this. It is in issue 12 which luckily sold out very fast so we have it available to download in PDF format.

Go to http://www.totalamiga.org then to back issues and you will find it there.

I checked a few moments ago and it looks like the site is down for maintenance (hosted on Sixgirls). So maybe try a little later :-)

It may be that your ADSL provider uses PPPoE and AFAIK Genesis does not support this (at least not out of the box).  So, your options are MiamiDX, a broadband router (probably the best choice really), or finding a PPPoE driver for Genesis.

The problem with MiamiDX is it's impossible to register now.  So, you'll be stuck with only using the Internet for 30 minutes then having to reboot.

@adolecent

Reboot ? Why is that ? Just clicking the "online"-gadget does
the trick for me :-P
