"This is not some 100 beta board scam that you have send a band wire to, this is in the tens of thousands of orders.

Dammy"

Posting this news I saw on another site that I thought was interesting, but don't like to post there because of the negativity.

Is this true?  There was some calculations as far as cost putting these 10,000s of orders in the $10,000,000.00 range.

The one good question that was being asked was, if companies were buying these in such large quantities then why are they not for sell anywhere?   Has anyone seen C64x computers for sale at any other place other then the CUSA website?  Where did all these 10,000s of computers go to?

AMD is shipping AMD Llano APUs to OEMs and yet there's not retail PC with AMD Llano.

They are getting a ton of media coverage here in the United States.  Both the LA Times and National Public Radio carried the story that the thing is coming out this morning.  They don't really explain why anyone would want or need one, but the media seems fascinated with the story that a 1980s computer is being re-released in some form or other.

Like JJ's StarTrek 2009 or Tron 2010, it’s about “rebooting” the franchise.

If it doesn't contain a perfect SID sound and allow use of a Zipstick it ain't no C64 let alone worth $600.

My friend is loaded, he loves C64 and I sorted out 3Gb of 8bit Commodore games and emulators for him to play......even he wouldn't buy one for $600 I wouldn't buy one for sure. So a few thickos will be buying one....then nothing.....dead end.

What they should have done is resurrect the C64 DTV for $15-20 in massive quantities AND wired one of those FPGA boards to the C64x case & keyboard for $99.

If people want a cheap shit PC they can buy one for $250 too, total = $350. half price of C64x

Greed is ugly.

Greed is ugly.

Quote from: Gordon Gekko
Greed, for lack of a better word, is good.
Greed is right.
Greed works.
Greed clarifies, cuts through, and captures, the essence of the evolutionary spirit.
Greed, in all of its forms; greed for life, for money, for love, knowledge, has marked the upward surge of mankind and greed, you mark my words, will not only save Commodore, but that other malfunctioning corporation called the U.S.A.

(Ok, the original quote might not have mentioned Commodore specifically, but it's a very Tramielian quote...)

They haven't.

This is what he was told :

Dammy's imagination did the rest.

That sounds like a reality check for Dammy.

Take 20,000 units and multiply it by the cost of the unit and that is waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay short of $10m.  Once you take into account that the sales price isn't the profit, and you factor in the advertising budget, company expenses, etc, I doubt 20,000 units even cover the cost of the Disney DVD deal.

However, it is a start.

I still don't see that big a market for expensive retro PCs, but who knows.
A2000, A3000, 2 x A1200T, A1200, A4000Tower & Mediator, CD32, VIC-20, C64, C128, C128D, PET 8032, Minimig & ARM, C-One, FPGA Arcade... and AmigaOne X1000.

I bought a Chameleon the other month and that wasn't exactly cheap, but I'll be buggered if I can see the need for a $600 emulated C64 that won't let me plug in a real floppy.

Now I could see the market for a cheap (and I do mean cheap) retro style case for those who want to use the Chamelon in "standalone" mode without having to plug it in to a real C64.

Why isn't Dammy posting here about C-USA?  I had hoped he would be able to answer a few questions I have.

I hope the c64x sells well and continues to do so because when sales drop they will start selling Amigas therefore bastardising the Amiga brand. I hope they continue to sell c64x's forever... :(

Off topic has anyone noticed Amiga.org is really slow lately? Like 30 seconds to load a page?
Even my cat doesn\'t like me.

Aye, Kesa.  It's been noticeably slow for the better part of the day for pageloads.

That might be due to where you are.  I have had no problem with page load speeds.  Everything is zippy as usual from here. (N. California)

Doing a case in small numbers is never going to be cheap. Which is why the vic/c64/c16 used the same moulds.

If you want a 64 then the cheapest way is to buy an original one & get a 1541 ultimate II.

A stand alone chameleon is no better than an emulator on a PC, you can plug a 1541 & joystick into any PC using a USB adapter.
