Serial Mouse Adaptor?

My original Amiga mouse is dead. An adaptor that supports the mouse wheel is about $50.00 freaking bucks where ever I go!

I've heard you can plug a mouse into the serial port somehow...

...how is this done, and how good is it?

There is a driver for serial mice on Aminet. It works fine in workbench, but games and so won't work.

Also consider a new Amiga mouse. I think they're around $20.

So I just plug in the mouse with a 9 to 25 pin adaptor, use the drivers off aminet, and I'm set to go?

SerialMouse D seems to be the only one that works, the NewMouse driver didn't work, which sux because it supports the scroll wheel. :/

EDIT.

But after a few minutes, the mouse for no reason, ceases to respond. :/
 I reboot, it works again, then after a while...


...nothing.

EDIT: Aghh, the driver I was using was shareware, solemouse.lha seems much better!

For Solemouse to run from your startup-sequence, it wants you to do this:

 Enter SoleMouse to execute from CLI.
 From Startup-Sequence use this line:

 Run <>nil: SoleMouse

 Ok, I can run it from CLI, but that other line does nothing for me, after I boot up, nothing happens. Any ideas?

Is SoleMouse in your path, which should be SYS:C since it is in your startup-sequence?

I'm in a similar situation to you guys, although I have an elbox serial -> amiga adapter I need a ps2 -> amiga adapter for my kvm.

I was more than willing to buy one from amigakit.co.uk when I thought they were about £23 but either I was wrong or the price has crept up to £27, which to me puts it at closer to £30 than £20 I previously thought and although it's petty is enough to stop me buying one.

It's quite annoying, as I'd love to build one of these if only I had a PIC programmer. Anyone on here have access to one and willing to burn a chip for me?

Otherwise I could try and get hold of one of these in conjunction with my serail -> amiga mouse. :-(

I'm probably beating an old horse here but, why hasn't someone come up with a USB subcircuit/adapter that lets you plug anything into any Amiga (A500 thru A4000)?

I can burn you a 16F84, assuming my gear survived my recent house move (and assuming I can find which box they are in).

You can get secondhand amiga mice on ebay for next to nix. I got a few of them with other things, and as misidentified c64 mice. Never got one of them either  :-(

As for the pic burning, if you are determined, you can make a simple interface for peecee that uses the printer port and not much else IIRC. I have a 'proper' PIC burner but it's less than reliable on this temporary PC.
There are also 16x84 burning software/schematics available on aminet.

I've been wanting a PS/2 mouse to amiga interface for a while. Far too many other projects on the go as it is with no time to do any.
