I'm sort of able to do this. I have an a500 with an 030 and scsi/compactflash. Using dctv I can "watch" videos... with a zorro-2 adapter, you could use a regular ethernet card. I think all of the cards are 10mbs, so I'm not sure what you consider high-speed. But zorro-2 does have enough bandwidth to utilize 10mbs ethernet...

How big are those files going to be without compression? one HDD per film? ;P

It's only for (motly silent) cut scenes in my HD games based on films/TV shows etc one day, for now. (320x150x6)/8= byte size of frame. So 48000b for 4096 colour frame but you get 250% more resolution & 24/25fps image with no 'noise' over smaller CDXL files. You can tune the compression into playback after you benchmarked the chipset bus DMA throughput for OCS. I want to try lo-res interlace too actually :)

The whole point was to show Amiga 1000 was massively held back by storage technology of 1985 NOT OCS ie 1-2 decades ahead of it's time in potential. And that 7mhz A1000 movie will still look better than VGA ISA 486 25mhz 256 colour dithered animations thanks to HAM mode.

If nobody ever used it I wouldn't mind, it's for my own personal projects.

Most websites are CPU intensive too, 50mhz 030 is not a lot of MIPS (40mhz 386?) and ECS/OCS not s st s even 386 VGA. Browser has a tough time surfing todays Flash infested sites.

If your CPU is a 50MHZ (060 not 030) then you will just have enough power to play watchable MPEG1 movies with RiVA in HAM6 mode.

http://aminet.net/package/gfx/show/RiVA

the demo version only plays greyscale. The registered version will do HAM6 and HAM8(AGA) color as well as RTG.

I just registered it for $15 and now I can watch Big Bang Theory on my Amiga 1200 :)

It is fairly trivial to convert stuff to MPEG1 now that the converters support CUDA.

There is also HAMP which has amazing results on machines with even a basic 68000, however the video files are huge and the conversion process is involved, so I have never seen more than a "clip", let alone a movie or movies :)

this is HAMP running on a minimig.

HOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOLDDDDDDDDDDDDD THE BREAKS EVRYONE!!!!!

I need you to be completely honest with me ones and for good...no fooling arround!!! Are you saying, all I need is a 68060 processor for the Amiga 500, an external scsi dvd player and I convert movies to mpeg which is MUCH EASIER than ever before....upgrade the kickstart from kickstart 1.3 to 3.1 which is piece of cake, download this program and register it for 15 bucks which I will do easily and I can WATCH any movie I EVER WANTED like the one you showed me on YOUTUBE AND LOOKS as good as the one on YOUTUBE like you showed me on MY OCS Amiga 500 with 8 MB FAST RAM????!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

What about HAMP?? IF 68060 does not exist for Amiga 500 or impossibly rare can a 68030 WORK WELL FOR HAMP giving the SAME result in YOUTUBE and watch MPEG movies on HAMP??? I think I am this close now to watching movies on my Amiga 500, Commodore 1084s........I think I am going to have anxiety attack with anxiousness...water, must drink water!

Could you quit posting in desperate pleas for assistance over the course of an afternoon? It's a little annoying. The possibility of doing the things you want is not going to vanish if you wait too long.

I am going to ignore your post Commodorejohn, I have a legible reason to be anxious and if I go a little excited it is for legible reason also.  I have always wanted to watch movies on my Amiga 500 and I thought it was impossible, now someone is showing me a window and an open window, I just need to confirm with him completely how go through that window...so I get a little excited. What is your reason for that response?

I use iBrowse on my A1200 (50Mhz 68030, 2 Meg Chip, 16Mb Fast, IDE HD, some weird multiscan resolution) and it's perfectly usable.  Not the quickest and not all sites work due to lack of Java / CSS - but, it's an enjoyable experience.

Have you tried http://aoproxy.extropia.co.uk/ ?

Routes for video playback on an A500, for all I know :)

1. filmdt+AGMSFilm2

2. avi4hv

3. cdxl toolkit +cdgsxl+xltoolkit

BTW you can also play mp3 audio files on a 68000 (with limited quality)

I have uploaded all of that software here:

Can you tell me more about 1 and 2 please? I noticed when I attempted to play the movie using agmsfilm2 it was scaninning for iff for both audio and visual, I have a program that extract the film into row jpg and wav and I have a program that converts jpg to amiga iff easy with  a simple mouse click, now is there a movie maker for window that I can add iff for both audio and image and save and compile it as normal avi to play in agmsfilm2?

If only someone could tell us how the hell we encode n playback ANIM+SLA type 2 (type 1 pre-loads sound into RAM, type 2 streams ANIM video AND audio together.

Here is our Amiga format streaming movie.......that nobody supported!

I have the feeling that no one really wants to get movies on the Amiga classic or help resolve the issue.

There are better things to do with an Amiga.
3 Commodore file cabinets, 2 Commodore USB turntables, 1 AmigaWorld beer mug
Alienware M14x i7 laptop running AmigaForever

Hello, I'm sorry I couldn't reply earlier, I was a bridesmaid at my friend's wedding which went all day and night.

There used to be a guide online on converting movies to CDXL, but the site it was on is gone now. It was made by an Amiga.org member amigaanime. He also converted five or six episodes of an anime series to CDXL, which you can still find online on various download sites. They are in compressed iso files though, so you need to extract then either mount or burn the ISO to CD to get the CDXL file out. The CDs will play on a CD32 as well. Here's a thread about it - http://www.amiga.org/forums/showthread.php?t=17072

I have intended on converting several films and TV shows to CDXL so I could play them on my own A600 and A500 when the ACA520 comes out, so I won't give up trying remember how it was done. I love the idea of clicking on an icon in Workbench and playing a video, either full screen or in a window(since Multiview plays CDXLs too), so I'll be experimenting with both HAM6 and 16 colour CDXLs.

The docs to RiVA say on an 030/50MHZ Blizzard it can playback 160x120 mpeg files in greyscale at 18.5 FPS, HAM6 at 11.5FPS and 10.5 FPS in HAM8.  I'm assuming that is without sound, so I'm not sure how much that slows it down...

Well... He does have a point. I understand you're anxious, but, well, don't get too excited. It makes your posts extremely hard to read.
Life sucks. Then you die. Then they throw mud in your face. Then you get eaten by worms. Be happy it happens in that order... My Amiga 1200
