Description: This is how my A4000D currently looks inside. It has the following expansions:
CyberStormPPC 060/50Mhz 604e/200MHz
CyberVisionPPC
Ariadne

The main goal when arranging the innards of this computer was to achieve a low temp to keep the CSPPC healthy.

These are the most basic things done:
- Made sure the cables didnt obstruct the airflow (the floppy cable is moved to allow you to see more when taking the photo, it is not supposed to be eaten by the psu fan :)).
- Removed all unused Zorro backplates to allow for more air to get in.
- Used just one harddrive.
- Fitted no unecessary expansions (no I will not mount a Z2 scsi card :D).

I also have:
- Built a new backplate for the psu (it is removable by default) to allow for better airflow, you can see how it looks here.
- Modified the intake hole for the psu fan to allow for better airflow, which you can see here.
- Fitted a thin (15mm) 80x80mm fan over the 060/604e with a slight angle so it blows the hot air from the cpus towards the psu fan.
- Fitted a chipset heatsink on the P2 chip on the CVPPC.
- Fitted a new psu fan as the stock one was had a bad performance/noise ratio.

The white cables going from the CVPPC is a replacement for the stock cable which was very good at producing noise and shadows in the image. The replacement gives a wee bit better image to say the least. It is made out of five 75 Ohm coaxial cables instead of the stock shielded flatcable.

The two black boxes laying on top of the floppy are fan regulators (static, not temperature controlled) for the psu fan and the fan on the CSPPC. I am not totally happy with them as they take up too much space for what they do, but I plan to do something about them in the future.

Overall I am very happy with the results - it is cool inside and much quieter as it doesnt have to violently force the air to move through the computer anymore.

If you read the label on it, it says 7200rpm :).

I bought it on eBay, but it is an Adaptec cable with part number 1494704-00. I wouldn't be surprised if it isn't Adaptec who manufactures them originally though.

It's a very good cable, actually I have never seen a better type of rounded cable of any kind. It's extremely flexible and thin, not is not like the normal rounded ide cables which usually are stiff, very thick and has this huge plastic blob at the connector where the cable goes from round to flat.

Originally it is a 5 connector cable with one end terminated. Between each connector there is about a 0.3m cable, except the connector at the opposite end of the terminator which has 0.6m of cable to the next connector.

I removed the last 0.6m part cable as I didn't need that many devices and not having that extra cable inside the case gave more room for air to move.

@motorollin:

They are adjustable fan-regulators. One for the psu-fan and one for the cpu-fan. I plan to relocate them or replace them with resistors instead now that I know what speeds the fans need to work at.

What are those black things at the bottom, with all the little holes in?

Nice.

I have an 80mm fan sat near the BVision on my machine. I need a heatsink more like the one you have there really, I'm using a power amp one atm (fits perfectly, but not so many vanes)
