Problem with A1200 internal floppy drive
« on: August 26, 2023, 03:06:57 PM »
I got my A1200 out of storage recently which seems to be working fine* except the internal floppy drive.  I have an external one and I know how to switch which drive to boot from, but ideally I'd like to get the internal drive working.

I bought a floppy drive cleaning kit off ebay which surprisingly got the drive working but only for one or two disks then it went back to the typical click-click-click then Workbench gave a DF0: ? ? ? icon.  I tried it repeatedly but haven't even temporarily resurrected it since the first time.

I watched a guide on YouTube for how to clean floppy drives and I went as far as opening the drive and cleaning the heads myself with a cotton wool bud and isopropyl alcohol but it hasn't helped.

* booting from HDD fine, reading floppies with DF1, booting from DF1, playing games.

I also have an A500 in the loft that I was thinking of bringing down and perhaps pulling the floppy drive from that.  I know I could go for a Gotek drive DF0 replacement in the A1200 but I'm on the fence about whether I should invest in it or sell it.
