Not sure if I could help here but I used Basilisk II while having MorphOS.  I especially bought an OS8 CD in order to check it out, got one on ebay, landed from Australia :-)

I tried MacOS8 on MorphOS 2.4 because I wanted to check some certain software - IcXL.  It's xls-like spreadsheet which older builts were freed for MorphOS especially :-)

But getting onto a topic - I know Basilisk II can emulate MacOS 68x.  Since Amigas have one (I presume You got a classic), I'd be sure Mac II can be run on it - but check the website.

Was: Mac Mini PPC running MorphOS 2.4
Now: Amiga Forever 2010 with AmiKit and AmigaSYS
Not used: Icaros Desktop 1.2 (reason: no wifi)
Planned soon: an OS4 system
Shortly then: a MOS notebook (wifi is a must-have)

i use KEGS on my OS4 system, but i don't know if it is available for classic systems.  your best bet is probably apple2000 on aminet.  there are several versions available depending on whether or not you need to run software for the apple IIe.

good luck, and let us know how you get on!

hmmm. that's a shame. there is an ancient emulator called AppleOnAmiga, but it only emulates the original apple ][ itself.  does that also not work?  maybe @drHirudo could help here?  he's sort of the 8-bit systems emulator expert in the OS4 world.  i would imagine he might also know about what is around for the classic systems.

ROM files, or disk images?

Disk images have to be in .dsk format, not .nib format.

Apple2000 is the best Apple II emulator for the Amiga, by far.

I'm using Apple2000 on my CSMKIII 060 system.  Works pretty well, actually.  Was able to take several old BASIC games from COMPUTE! and type them in.  Now I just need to find "Rocky's Boots."

I haven't been to the point of testing some disks, only trying my ROM files, renamed accordingly to the manual in _Apple.ROM.

What size is your ROM? It should be 12288 bytes.

If you are using the Apple2000e flavour, it doesn't require any external ROM images.

The earlier 1.3 looks for "_APPLE.ROM" and "_DISK.ROM" in the same directory as the executable.

_APPLE.ROM is a dump from an Apple 2+ of $D000-$FFFF, 12288 bytes in length.
_DISK.ROM is a dump of the disk controller rom ($C600-$C6FF), 256 bytes in length.

Hope this helps,

Hello.

Thanks to the infos from users in this thread, i have been able to find the good sized rom for Apple 2000. It is now working fine with Ultima IV.

However, acess to disk files is pretty slow. Is that normal?

Apple2000e is the best Apple II emulator for classic Amiga machines. It is very fast as well and is useful even on 68020 machines. Only dsk images can be used with it (143 360 bytes long), but not the .nib images, which are something like the .ipf format on the Amiga. You can also load executable programs with Apple2000e with the .prog (.prg) extension. You can use Amiga Joystick or Amiga Mouse with Apple2000 - the Mouse emulates the analog joystick of the Apple 2s - useful for some games like Captain Goodnight.

I used to compile programs on my Amiga and load directly them with Apple2000e and test - very useful for developing for the retro machine and testing software.

Be careful to change the pattern of the Apple2000e file requester from .disk to .dsk or you may not see your files.

Apple2000e emulates the auxilary memory of the AppleIIe, but not the double highres and double lowres modes. Also some games would not run if they execute code from the extra memory.

If the limitations of Apple2000e stop you from using some Apple II software, with fast machines you can use Apple PC or other MS-DOS based Apple II emulator under PC-Task or PCx. On 25 MHz 68040 ApplePC was slow but useful for testing.

The other Apple II emulators on classic Amigas are not good.

On AmigaOS 4, Apple2000e crashes and is useful only under E-UAE, but there are SDDApple and KEGS, which emulates the Apple IIGS. I partially ported WinApple to AmigaOS 4 some years ago, but it was unstable due some endian swaps, so I left the project unfinished.

Hi.

I didn't have the chance to thank you for this useful answer but better late than never and the Amiga time is a very long time anyway.

I am tinkering again with Apple2000 to try some games.
UltimaIV works but i have no music and only some sounds.
Prince of Persia hangs.
Arkanoid works but the emulator seems to have issue with the joystick control and the platform can only be moved to 3 positions.

I know you value the emulator to test programs but did you do any gaming on it?

Thanks.

Hey, it just appeared to me that an Apple II won't do music apart from beeps from its buzzer if it doesn't have a Mockingboard or whatever soundcard.
Indeed, UltimaIV has an option to set up an audio card.
It seems there is no sound card emulation included in Apple2000 emulator unfortunately.
