Title: Wireless PC Card driver
Post by: bradhansen1 on July 19, 2022, 05:59:55 PM
Hello All, I am looking for a driver for my wireless pc card. "Skyline PC Card" 802.11b. The Card also says
"proxim skyline." A few years back and a couple of A1200's ago I found the Skyline driver and had it working
on that A1200, which went when I sold the computer.  Now that web page which had it and explained the
installation doesn't seem to be around anymore. Any advise on which driver could work would be helpful.
prism2 the latest version does not.
Much appreciated,
Brad Hansen

Never heard of any wifi driver besides prism2.

Which web site is that? Maybe it's on web.archive.org?

Hi, It was 6 years ago, I couldn't remember if I wanted to. I know it was a special program a
gentleman took on because he wanted to provide a driver for that card. To many folks have left
the scene. There are plenty of new folks enjoying the platform, but I don't see too many Amiga Guru's
around on any of these sites.
Sorry,
Brad Hansen

A picture of the card would help. If it really is a pc card, and not pcmcia, then it could never work with Amiga.

Hello Brad,
While not a direct answer nor a hit on your google-foo I came across a some possible 'hints' about your device driver

--post #4 talks about some proxim cards and that they work with the prism2 driver on aminet
    --Amiga.org thread: https://forum.amiga.org/index.php?topic=39861.0 (https://forum.amiga.org/index.php?topic=39861.0)

Also found this google page which discusses 'virtually every pcmcia ethernet card that works with the A1200.'  Again not a direct anwser but they do mention a 'Sky Link Express'  Don't know if this is related or not
    -- Google groups: https://groups.google.com/g/comp.sys.amiga.datacomm/c/VYfJ73TfVjI (https://groups.google.com/g/comp.sys.amiga.datacomm/c/VYfJ73TfVjI)

FWIW this link they talk about the Orinoco Gold card.  While not the skyline a quick seach of google images show SOME labled by proxim.
    -- Amigaworld.net thread: https://amigaworld.net//modules/newbb/viewtopic.php?topic_id=26191&forum=25 (https://amigaworld.net//modules/newbb/viewtopic.php?topic_id=26191&forum=25)

And here are a few more general pages good PCMIA and Amiga PCMCIA networkign info
    -- GMB's PCMCIA Page: http://www.g-mb.de/pcmcia_e.html (http://www.g-mb.de/pcmcia_e.html)

Good luck

PCCard *is* PCMCIA. What you mean is CardBus.

Hello AmigaSource, Thank you for all this good work.  I will go through all of it.
I have the latest prism2 driver and have tried it with no luck. That's not to say
it wouldn't work, not exactly sure I am setting up EasyNet Pro correctly. When I go
to settings and browse for networks it finds a number of them including mine. Supposedly
works with WPA2 and I've entered my Passphrase. But no go. Thanks to all
for the support.

Hello Brad,
Glad to help.  I wish I could have added some personal insight but I never went down the rabbit hole of PCMCIA drivers on my 1200.  Keep us updated on your progress!

Best of luck!
