Amiga.org Discussion and Site Feedback / Amiga.org Captcha drama
« Last post by aerno on April 18, 2024, 01:33:59 PM »
Hello,

I've just returned here after some years and found out I need capthas here and there on the forum. Not for a new topic upto now  8)

Can onyone of you actually read these on a 27" monitor ? I can't complain about the PQ of my LG 27" monitor at all.

Never did I have to download the 8kbit sampled speach of any captcha before (done on a C64 - which is cool BTW) and play it to solve the Captcha...

Thanks for looking into it, Arno

I made modifications to this simple 14MHz accelerator by Dennis:
https://github.com/Mathesar/14mhz-accelerator

It runs at either 21 or 28MHz with a configurable PLL.  Photo attached, along with SysInfo and problem shown in ATK.

It's quite speedy (approximately 16MHz 030 A3000 equivalent according to SysInfo result), largely thanks to the zero waitstate memory at that processor frequency, games like Hard Drivin' and 4D Sports Driving (Stunts) have a nice frame rate, and DREAD demo is super smooth.  Every game that runs on the unmodified 14MHz accelerator also runs with the 28MHz modification.  The problem is that music routines run too fast in most games.  A Goggle search pointed me to a gentleman with similar sound symptoms caused by a weak /DTACK pullup, which ultimately led me to discover that my Amiga is having much higher interrupt frequency as measured in ATK.  This problem is not present with unmodified 14MHz accelerator.

My mind isn't as sharp as it was after I finished my university computer engineering degree more than a decade ago, so I'd like to ask for some help figuring out what causes the higher interrupt count and figure out what I should do to improve it.

The Amiga board I am using here is an NTSC 500 rev.5, and the only modifications I made to the accelerator are substituting a configurable PLL, a 10ns delay line to line up the clock edges, and using the buffered 7MHz reference clock from the PLL instead of the one from the system to feed the /DTACK and /AS synchronizing flip-flops because it has a nicer waveform with less skew.

Help is appreciated.

Amiga User Group News / Next FCUG meeting - Sunday, April 21, 2024
« Last post by RobertB on April 17, 2024, 10:19:00 PM »
Happy Weekend after Commodore LA Super Show, C= and Ami aficionados!

The Fresno Commodore User Group has its next meeting from 11 a.m. to 2:30+ p.m., Sunday, April 21, at

Panera Bread Restaurant
3590 W. Shaw Ave. (corner of W. Shaw Ave. and Marty Ave.)
Fresno, CA 93711
(559) 271-0104
http://www.dickestel.com/met_loc.htm

For discussion, we'll talk about how Commodore LA Super Show went, the usual things - equipment failures, presentations dropped, presentations added, attendees, the mood of the crowd, etc.  Also we'll talk about our sister show, the June 22-23 Pacific Commodore Expo NW in Seattle, and even CLASS 2025.

Like last month, we’ll try out some of the latest C64 games (Lock 'n Chase, Hermanos, Good Knight, Harharagon, Night Mission Pinball Extended, and more) and VIC-20 games (FiZZ, Chlopodia, Mars Planet Patrol, Petscii Breakout, Railyard, Victris #64738). And we'll check out some brand new Amiga disks-of-the-month from The Other Group of Amigoids (TOGA).

Truly,
Robert Bernardo

I have installed 3.2 roms and Im using Workbench 3.2, as I understand it supports large drives.

I’m taking it you are using the FastFilesystem? Or PFS3?

What are the following in HDToolBox?

File System Block Size
Mask
MaxTransfer

If MaxTransfer = 0x0FFFF or similar. Then try changing this to 0x1FE00.

Very interesting. Provides a solution to tracking down a 060 and then paying through the nose for it. If the board can emulate a 060 wonder if there is potential to emulate a 604 PPC. Would be really cool to have virtual CS Cyberstorm PPC that is affordable.

Weed

Can’t see a Cyberstorm PPC (Or even a Blizzard PPC) variant considering Phase 5/DCE hold the designs to these cards. The issue is the PPC side. Yes you can use WarpOS and AmigaOS4. But without anything else, PPC doesn’t really add to the Amiga experience without some sort of current backing of new Software.

What would be nice, if we did have SCSI re-introduced back. I prefer it over IDE due to DMA and less overhead on the already demands the CPU has to do.

Please stop. We all know you have issues with RetroPassion, but please threads are going to end up trashed.
Lets keep it civil and on topic.

No worries. Just trying to put out a fair assessment that there are other resellers out there who also sell Hyperions Amiga OS products. Hopefully they too will not have any issues going forward.

Hopefully this Hyperion business gets sorted out and AmigaOS 3.3 get released. 🤞🏻This will sort out the issues in 3.2 and above. 👍🏻

When someone can't handle the truth it seems.

As I said to Boing-Ball in other thread, I'm trying my best to manage this.
Please, please lets keep it civil.
