Title: Morphos 1.4 for BPPC
Post by: jj on January 08, 2009, 11:19:04 AM
Some quick questions, if I can get it working on my setup

Is GOA part of this release or is it 2.0 only ?

what about other cooly stuff, tinygl and reggae etc ?

Basically does this version have warp3d and powerup support ?

Reggae has to be downloaded from Krashan's website. IIRC TinyGL is included as default, you can download 3d update if you are unsure.

Of course. Both powerUp and WarpOS are suported. Warp3D wrapper works great too.

What gfx card do you have? If you use a virge/permedia2 you will have to install Warp3D as 3D part is not supported by TinyGL/Rave. If you have a Voodoo it should work without problems OOTB.

Bvision

Previous attempts at installing morphos have never been good, never managed to get it working though I admit to not having a lot of patience.  I have got into the mindset of os should just install and work  :-D

I have A1200 3.1 roms, powerflyer gold Mk III, bpcc 040/25 175 603e, 64 mb ram, bvision, a few other bits

How do you think it run speed wise on my system ?

175MHz and 64 MB ram are enough for many things (but you better avoid to open many screens, reduce use of MUI textures and so on). I had a similar setup (had SCSI drives thoufg and my Blizzard ran at 200MHz) and it was convenient. The difference to the 68040/25 was huge - the JIT is more than twice as fast as the real 68040.
I once did a brief comparision of my setups:

Does WHDLoad work in MOS on the PUP?

Good question, does it? I would suspect not, guessing you would have to run E-uae

Really on the JIT as well, so native 68k non hardware hitting apps will run faster than on  AOS. Intersting mr Bond

Well the real hardware is there... I assume the 68k JIT has full access to the address space and assuming it is privy to the amiga interupts... It should work...

Dang, I just noticed the MOS install requires a CD drive... Could someone image their HD with a MOS for BlizzPPC already installed, for me? Cheers :-)

Then my guess is that interupts are not handled properly... Or maybe the lower 2meg is not mapped into the 68kJIT address space...

Bah! Where's Piru when you need him? ;-)

At work.

MorphOS wasn't designed to support the HW banging apps/games. This allowed some optimizations to be made.

Amazingly some stuff still works (http://www.morphzone.org/modules/newbb_plus/viewtopic.php?topic_id=5021&forum=42).

Yeah, I guess things can be made a lot faster when not worrying about chipset timing etc...

Any ideas how to install MOS without a CD drive?

Mount the ISO image rather than burning it on a disc?

For example http://aminet.net/package/disk/misc/diskimage_device-os3

For this to work you need to do manual install though, but it should be possible if you know amigados a bit.

Hmmm... Yeah...still seems like too much effort, can I install using UAE, or does it look for a BlizzPPC?

You really do not have a cd-rom drive for your miggy ?

Very kind offer, but when my 40-44pin IDE wire broke I superglued it tithe motherboard... Now I have to choose... CD Drive or HD :-)

My powerflyer is stuck to the rom sockets cause they ar so hard to insert i snapped a few pins so soldered wires between the powerflyer andd the sockets.

As I said in another thread so much been fixed on my mobo with pieces of wire I am amazed when it works.  Especially when its not been used for ages.  Always smile when it boots.

If most people saw how it all hung together with the Z4 bus board they would probably cry

@bloodline

use a pcmcia compactflash/SD adapter to transfer the files. You could also transfer the files to your HD through WinUAE.

@JJ

So you have MorphOS running, right?

No PCMCIA, I have no plans to spend any money on legacy hardware anymore. I might purchase whatever Jens comes up with from his CloneA project... But that is all.

I also am no longer motivated to mess around wasting time trying to get something to work... Which is why I would prefer a nice preinstalled HD image I can write to an HD...

"I also am no longer motivated to mess around wasting time trying to get something to work.."

Where's the fun then !?
Anyway, transfer the iso via ethernet (I'm sure you must have one of those el cheapo pcmcia ethernet adapters ? Otherwise use serial transfer, just leave PC and Amiga on for a few days ;)).

But he's got plenty of time to "waste" on the forums. Typical.

If that was directed at me, then I will point out that I post on this forum from my iPhone... so I don't actually have to devote any time to it... and my free time I prefer to spend working on my own projects, like Anubis or AROS than trying to get my old Amiga's working without any compatible display device, and I think I've lost my Amiga Mice too... :-(
