A2000 to TV?
« on: March 09, 2005, 09:05:14 AM »
:-? Hi, well I fell for an Amiga A2000. Because it only cost me $2NZ, about $1.50 US! Plus $20 NZ, $15US shipping. Now the fun starts. It dosen't have a monitor. I've seen an Amiga A520 PC to TV adaptor for sale. But I was wondering, although I've only seen a picture of the A2000, it looks like Rc or RCA jacks on the back. Does this mean I can plug it directly into a TV or do I have to get the A520, or is there a better way? Many thanks, God bless

Hi,

the RCA-Jacks of an A2000 are for audio and monochrome-video.
If you want to have a colored picture you could either buy an A520 to connect to the antenna-input of the TV or -- if your TV is able to display RGB -- you could purchase a cable to connect your Amigas video-output (23-pin connector) to the AV-input (scart) of your TV. This would be the better choise, the picture is much better than with an A520.

Hi,

If you want the best picture (monitor-quality) on a TV, then a SCART cable is the way to go. I assume that TV's in NZ have such connector. I also assume that you are in NZ and that the pinout of the connector will be a world-wide standard.

You can search the net for the cable. You can try:

http://www.mmd-shop.de/scart_rgb.htm
http://www.microos.com/us_kabel.html
http://www.amigadeals.fsnet.co.uk/leads.htm

Alternatively, you can build the cable yourself, if you have soldering skills. Follow:

http://www.jeacle.ie/pub/articles/scart/

If you opt for this latter solution, please make sure that you read the note at the end of the page. I have built this cable and it does work, however the resistors happened to be necessary in my case (so this could be your case too). I have been using it in an A4000. Also, bear in mind that 23-pin connectors might be difficult to source.

Good luck!

Hi,

Do NZ tellies have SCART connectors? I'm interested as I'm emigrating there at the end of the month (my four Amigas are coming with me of course!)

Most of the tellies I'd seen in NZ just had the three phono inputs (composite video, audio left, audio right) and boggy old RF.

Regards,

If by chance flashman does have a scart tv (sadly a very rare thing in NZ), or plans on making up some other type of cable that attaches to the graphics port, Dick Smith still have a few (part P2697): 23 Pin D-Type Skt Solder Tail.  I can only hope you're near one of the few stores that still have them flashman!

For the A520 route, there is one on Trademe at the moment: A520.
Type "amiga" into Trademe's search box, there are also a few monitors being auctioned in Hamilton.

In NZ our most common connectors to traditional tv sets are composite (rca based) and rf, with s-video coming a distant third (although this is not true of LCDs and plasmas and the like).  There is also component video (rca based) on some TVs, although I don't know how common it is.

There is another path that would offer colour rca output, and that is a board like the A2300 genlock.
