Grange? Cark?
Good guess, Flookburgh. 👍
Here’s an update on what I have been up to. I used Zuluscsi in initiator mode and backed up my hard disk. I also used the zulu scsi to copy every file on my hd to see which files are damaged.
I know some files are missing because an old back up had more source code files in it but it copied every file without any errors popping up.
The hd has a valitation error which never clears up and doesn’t allow anything to write to the hd. I looked in the L directory and found disk-validator had a friend called disk-validator-old or something like that and also another file had an ‘old’ friend too. I tried using a couple of disk tools to check the hard disk but no errors came up and then one crashed out and another would not allow me to go any further when an error popped up (I can’t remember the errors) Anyway I think my HD has a virus and I wondering what is the best way to tackle it. My HD is WB1.3 and it did have a load of virus killer stuff on it. Whether they were working or not or something bypassed the protection I haven’t a clue. I only used my Amiga for playing games and writing AticAtac and a few other bits of code.
I presume viruses infect bootblock, attach themselves to runnable code, stay resident in memory and disk-validation ones will swap out the disk-validator routine so will infect any floppy or HD that is attached to the system automatically gets infected. Does FastFileSystem provide any protection? I read somewhere that it did.
I’d like to find something that detects it and cleans it and see what I’m left with. I think I have all my source code backed up but sod’s law dictates that it wont be.
So what is the best way to disinfect my HD? If it is a virus then it’s 30+ years old so somebody must have a cure for it.
Any help would be appreciated. Thanks
