Hold your breath. A G5 Peg is one thing. MorpOS running on it another. Let`s see how long the MophOS team needs to do the nessecary adjustments (as Genesi itself has little to no interest in that. They will just sell it as a Linux machine)
Not really interesting, but it`s there.

That is very reasonably priced for a 4-CPU 64bit Full Server Setup.

Does MOS actually run 64-bit native? That would be rather cool :-)

I'd have to see some benchmarks to believe that.  I can get a mighty fine 2x  Dual Core rack mount for that much money.  There is a reason why Apple left G5s for Intel ya know.

Whatever it is they're smoking, they should give some to Steve Jobs - Apple's quad-core 2.5Ghz G5 machine starts at $3299, over double the cost of Genesi's.

Yes, they ran too hot for Apple to fit them inside a 1" thin notebook.

Speed-wise, the Powermac G5 Quad stomps all over my MacBook Pro (3.5 x faster in Quake 4 at high resolutions for example, according to BareFeats).

Well, a quad cpu versus a single dual core isn't exactly fair, is it?
Also, quake4 isn't the best benchmark - the D3 engine performance is hugely affected by how much video ram you have to store all those massive textures and dot3 maps, and of course, how quickly your GPU can render it all. Beyond a certain point, the CPU instruction munching speed stops being relevant, the graphics system simply cant go any faster.

And there are many reasons why some businesses prefer/require the use of PPC CPU's.

The world is not black and white Dammy.

Nope!

MorphOS is just 32 bit as OS 4.0...

...and both OSes could NOT use Simmetrical MultiProcessing (SMP) to let the scheduled jobs that the OS should perform in its normal daily working, all the threads, all I/O and the allocations of tasks and data into memory to be splitted on any core of any CPU to divide the work, reduce the usage and increase speed.

At least Bill Buck said that these new Pegasos III are ready for virtualization.

This means (rough and approximatively) that you can run one istance of MorphOS in one G5 core by using 32 bit mode compatibility, and another instance into another core using same mode.

Or you can run Linux, in one or two cores Linux, Mac OS in a third core, and MorphOS in the fourth core.

Or maybe you can use Linux in full 64 bit in two cores and doing something else into other two cores with MacOS in 32 bit and MorphOS in 32 bit.

Or again you can run Linux in one CPU using both cores at full 64bit, and MacOS in MOLK emulation in the other CPU using both cores at 64 bit.

(two Oses at full 64 bit running at same time)

Or even finally you can run four istances of MorphOS, all running in 32 bit emulation in any of G5 cores.

If true, then it could be really interesting unless someone will decide that AmigaOS or MorphOS should be ported to 64 bit and modified to support SMP.

Time will see.

No use if it wont even run MorphOS.....

From what i heard, there is no plans on porting MorphOS to a new Pegasos box..
