S-Video to 1084S
« on: January 14, 2008, 03:31:30 AM »
Is this possible, is there an easy to build cable that will go into the 1084S' 6pin RGB port from S-Video?

Nope.  If you have a newer 1084S that has a separated LCA jacks (like the Commodore 64 used), you can modify an S-Video cable to that format.

My monitor has RCA ports for Audio and Video could I somehow take S-Video to that?

-EDIT-

Would this work?

Does it have four RCA jacks in the back of the monitor?

The red and yellow jacks are s-video, the white and black are stereo audio.

L for luminance, C for chroma..

Just make a cable that has a female 4-pin minidin in one end and two RCA males in the other end. Make sure the LCA/CVBS switch next to the RCA jacks behind the monitor is in the LCA position.

S-video goodness, don't go ruining your S-video signal into composite if your monitor can do it natively. ;-)

Yes that is the monitor I have. So this will not wear it out then?

I don't understand what you mean by wearing it out?

If you indeed have the four rca jacks, it is trivial to solder a cable to make it accept s-video.

No.  This will not wear it out.  The only problem is that it will not have as good of a picture as an RGB Analog signal will have.

@XDelusion

YES!  its possible,The 1084 was made for this....it has Chroma Luma inputs.... but I highly recommend you just buy one!  I bought one for $30 a while back, but guess what?  I found a place that sells them for about $9!...I think this is cheaper than it would cost you to build it! and its Nice

They are high quality............One end is S-Video to plug into the DVD out (or whatever S-Video device your using)and the other end is 2 RCA Jacks (Chroma $ Luma)  if you have a 1084s, then you should have this.

Its an awesome Cable and I went balistic when I saw someone had it.  Mind you the Quality is not as good as S-Video to S-Video.perhaps its the 1084s Monitor.it looks good though!  wayyyy better than Composite and quite usable for all applications and less flicker than RGB. This is good to use if you have a Genlock and dont want to keep switching back to RGB mode......just puch the sliders back up on the genlock to see your Workbench.....or halfway to See Workbench and TV signal or DVD movie as a WallPaper!

I got it at J&R Music World here in NYC, a very very famous electronics store.

Also Micro Center in ong Island sells them too.

Perhaps if you can't get it, I can get one for you if you pay for shipping.

but try getting it online first.

This cable is rare and essential if you want S-Video on your 1084s
CD32 is actually the best Amiga ever made by Commodore!...
