While even 64MB SDRAM + 64MB GFX card DDR RAM is "lightyear" ahead of XBOX memory capacity...

Of course, I do keep track of developments.

Quote

256MB SDRAM should remove the need of the swap memory & HDD.

Of course, but the final cost would be potential point of concern.

HDD could be added when/if needed. (it should exist in A1200 kind of machine, not in CD32/gameconsole)

Of course i.e. how could one save their home-related user data** without a (random access) mass storage device (e.g. hard disk)?

The Playstation 2 has a vast amount of games and it seems Sony has provided the Linux community with utilities for converting things.

Careful with that statement... Sony’s interest in Linux is for the support it’s own brand of non-negotiable closed hardware platform.

One doesn't need Sony's initiative, IF the source code is already available for download (and open for negotiation in regards to licensing deals).

If you can convert things for PS 2 from Linux, what's to stop people reverse engininering and releasing similar games onto the AmigaONE?

What do 'you' mean by "reverse engininering"?
One doesn’t need reverse engineering if the source code is available to begin with.

After all Connetix produced a PSX Emulator on Mac and beat Sonys law suit.

Such emulators could negate the need for native AmigaOS titles and could damage the AmigaOS platform in the long run. It only benefits Sony in terms of titles sales and market share (i.e. aids Sony’s market software sales not AmigaOS related titles).

Games to ply on the A1 ?

TuxRacer comes into mind  :-P
1. Make an announcment.
2. Wait a while.
3. Check if it can actually be done.
4. Wait for someone else to do it.
5. Start working on it while giving out hillarious progress-reports.
6. Deny that you have ever announced it
7. Blame someone else

Well this isnt so much a game but id like to see a port of the bioware infintiy engine to A1/OS4 so so developers could make a Baldurs Gate/Icewind Dale style game that is unique to the platform.

@ baro2000

> Battle Isle

You might want to check out this link: Advanced Strategic Command
It's a customizable strategy game, and includes support for some of the old Battle Isle maps (you can download them on their site).

It's a Linux game (I'm sure Kronos will love the irony behind this ;-)), open source, and might be a good candidate for people wanting to port something (Hint, hint  :-D )

Helgis,

If it runs Empire perfectly, then I'll be happy for the rest of the A1's life.  If I want current games, I'll buy them for my PS2 and GameCube.

Well, there is one recent game that I'd like to see on the Amiga, and that's Neverwinter Nights.  But under one condition: I want the toolkit.  Not like the Mac version where the toolkit has been cancelled.

I want "Planet Side"  it's INSANE!! .. http://planetside.station.sony.com/

Actually, the Planetside I had in mind was of Psygnosis! After 12 years I feel we deserve the ORIGINAL... CDTV Retrospective
Quote
This is the game that should have sold the machine that came from the house that Jack built.

Planetside has its roots back in the days when Psygnosis was one of "The Great Amiga Publishers." Demoed on the Lemmings CDTV disk, this shoot-em-up had you racing over a fractal landscape in pursuit of a raging missile.

20,000 Leagues Under The Sea .. Sachs produced the original artwork, but the game never eventuated.

Ultimate TETRIS .. (We don't have to be entirely serious, do we?)

. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .

The A1 just could[/b] be the machine for a NEW "more than just a game" to debut on.
WHAT I have in mind is a CD or DVD with multiple entry points; like Flight Sims where you can fly TRAINING or MISSIONS, but much more than that.

As an example: "The LENSMAN Universe". . . .
Based on the series by E.E (Doc) Smith, the player would be able to play as one of many characters ... from- Spy missions in Ancient Atlantis, Fighting as a Gladiator in Imperial Rome, Conway Costigan of Triplanetary against Grey Roger, the GREY LENSMAN from later books, the RED LENSMAN (a woman), any ot the CHILDREN OF THE LENS, or even WORSEL (a dragon).

° Then there would be Spaceship Simm options from Flitter to Dreadnaught, and even Battles in command of Grand Fleet! Null Inertia anyone?

° Weapons firing; from Hand Blaster to Battlewagon weapons such as the awesome Q-Gun right on up to the system-ranging Sun-beam!

° Being in command of Grand Base, and fighting off an attacking enemy fleet.

Big features would be seeing the FALSE enviroment fade away as the Mental Compulsion of your enemy is overcome..... taking over the mind of an enemy guard, 2-I-C, etc to fight from within an enemy stronghold.

( Other titles: "The Jules VERNE Universe", "The RINGWORLD Universe", "BARSOOM: savage world", "The Inner World of PELUSADAR".......)

-vortexau; who\\\'s still waiting! (-for AmigaOS4! ;-) )
