I always thought it was a shame that instead of EHB that an extra 32 colour registers weren't added. Even if the entire palette had to be split into two separate regions for backwards compatibility, the ability to have 64 freely assignable colours would have been a nice feature for a lot of games.
An extra 32 colour registers would have taken up a lot of space on the silicon... you forget that CSG's fabs were VERY old by the time the EHB was added.
