Title: Uhoh - dinosaur extinction 'impact' theory under fire (again)

Seems the grand theory that dinosaurs were wiped out by meteoric impact has run into trouble again. The Chicxulub impact is alleged by this new study to have been insufficient to cause enough damage to the climate to wipe out a tough genus that had ruled the Earth for hundreds of millions of years.

Instead, scientists are beginning to believe that they were wiped out by imaboringperson's and Tigger's favourite phenomenon, global warming (and global cooling) due to CO2. This time released not by man, but like the other three mass extinctions, by supervolcanos and continent-wide lava flows.

Probably this argument will never be conclusively solved. We should get a really powerful telescope, travel 85 million light years away, and have a look for ourselves. Now, if only that was scientifically possible... :inquisitive:

I KNEW it :lol: I KNEW it, as a kid I KNEW the the dinosaurs couldn't be wiped away by a meteorite. only because the impact wouldn't have a real impact on the other side of the world (or so I thought :lol:)

Or how about the unthinkable? Thats right, a global flood, saw a program on discovery recently, that looked closer to that theory, because almost every skeleton/fossile thats have been found, indicates that the animals has drown.

i haven`t seen that program...

But the fossils that we find are mostly those that have been preserved by flowing water...there are a few that have been associated with `tar pits` or catastrophic sand storms, but most of the dead bodies would have been scavenged and not preserved had they not been covered quickly...


I wouldn`t go as far as saying a global flood as this stinks of some Babylonian myth, but i would agree that migrating dinosaurs would certainly drown as they crossed flooded rivers etc... :-)
