E3B announce the release of a new Zorro II/III based USB controller supporting both USB 1.1 and 480 MBit/s USB 2.0 highspeed mode.

yeeehaaaa! :-D
-
Really good news for big box folks!
-
Nice, I think I will buy one for my A4000D.
So a USB sound card mounted to the Deneb will function just like a native Zorro sound card?
Very nice info on the page btw, direct boot from USB sounds cool. Too bad there is no A1200 version too :-)
-
At last! It's ready. Great news. Surely I buy one. :-D
-
*AGAIN*
TRULY _awesome_ work E3B!!!
SUPER specs, compatibility, SOFTWARE, DRIVERS and working with the community!!!
I'm so very impressed with all your never ending drive for the future.
My wife will be buying us two of these wicked cards for my birthday!
Joe Torre
(X-HW Engineer @ Amiga Inc.)
p.s. Bravo to Jens and Eric also for being ever kewl w/helping us all.
-
excellent! :-D
-
Congratulations to Michael and Chris - nice to see all their hard work come to fruition.
Just ordered one from Amigakit - due in stock 20th May (which is incidentally my Birthday!)
Great news!
-
Many thanks!
-
You can always send it for free as a birthday present ;-)
-
Congratulations E3B
Well worth the price, but sadly more than I can justify atm - you know, student scum and all ;-)

Congratulations too !!!

Can I put OS 3.9 rom to flash memory and use it to boot my amiga?
-
I went to the AmigaKit store to preorder one for myself, until I saw the price. Ouch! I was thinking it would be a little more than half that amount. I am going to have to wait until the US dollar makes a bit of a rebound (wishful thinking).
-
Can I put OS 3.9 rom to flash memory and use it to boot my amiga?
Yes. I've been doing so with the Algor for several years now.
-
Ooh. Gonna have to get one of those. Got one Zorro III slot left in the 4000...
-
While I can't change the price, it'd like to point out that your not "only" getting a USB 2.0 host controller, but also 4 MB of flashrom (eFlash 1+1MB 50 EUR, Kickflash 1MB 40 EUR), Poseidon V4.0 (V3.x was sold at 38 EUR), get the ability to use USB Soundcards (a feature not available to any other USB solution on the Amiga market) which can be obtained for less than 10 EUR (Delfina 130 EUR), can use USB Ethernet Adapters also available for less than 20 EUR (XSurf >100 EUR), use IDE or SATA adapters to reach speeds more than twice of the internal IDE even in PIO mode, and many more devices than just the usual mouse/keyboard stuff. Ah, and there's a clockport too.
We really spent a good time on developing this beast (about three years from thought to various prototypes as depicted on the E3B website). I think the price is pretty good considering this.
-
Yeah, considering all the features, the price is 100% reasonable IMO (cheap ethernet and audio options, just awesome). Actually, I'm surprised cool new Amiga HW like this can be developed _at all_ for >$200.
But I do hear ya amigadave... our economy has tanked somewhat, and it's harder to justify extraneous purchases these days. :(
-
Can you use any USB soundcard/NIC/Sata adapter or do you need to use special ones verified to work on Amiga?
-
Can you use any USB soundcard/NIC/Sata adapter or do you need to use special ones verified to work on Amiga?
Any SATA adapter complying to Mass Storage Device class (shouldn't give any exceptions nowadays).
NICs: only certain Pegasus and ASIX chipsets are supported. I recommend Pegasus ones.
sound card: should also comply to the corresponding USB class definition; we tried cheapo 3EUR ones from ebay and found them working, but watch out for some quality here.

does NIC means ethernet adapter?
the ability to use a cheap ethernet adapter is the main reason (not the only one of course) I am interested in deneb. Have you considered compiling lists of compatible adapters?

@Platon42 :
can I use a usb joypad with amiga games which are not "WB" friendly ?
-
Thanks for the list, it should be on the homepage also! :-) (perhaps its there however I could not find it)
-
I did not mean to really complain about the price. I have no doubt that it is worth every penny (or the EUR equivalent). I was just stating that I was not prepared for the price when I saw it and in my current financial situation, I will have to delay my purchase, not cancel any purchase.
It looks like a great piece of Amiga equipment and I want one. Thanks for taking the time and energy to produce such a useful and needed product for those of us who still wish to use Classic Amiga computers.
My hat is off to you Sir.
-
My hat is off to you Sir.
No, it's the wrong one you present your hat.
This one should be for the users and our customers, who did support us during a long time without new products and a shortage of Zorro USB controllers (there was a PhD thesis to finish, for example).
Even a good product is nothing without people using it :-)

I'd be interested to know the kind of performance you can get from the ethernet adaptors (with amitcp and miami). Miami is a fair amount slower i know (Shame roadshow was never available to buy for os3.x/m68k).
-
How much of the Amiga 2000's ZII autoconfig space would this card use?
-
The DENEB autoconfigures by a chained config request, with one 64kB card (FlashROM) and one 128kB card (USB). Both cards are I/O, but can also life in the normal memory space.
If you are unsure just do a "showconfig > ram:bla.txt" and send me the ASCII output file per PM to mboehmere3b.de
Michael
-
i'm interested about the ethernet adapter too.
I will buy one for this reason.
And which model/brand USB eth adapter do you suggest?
Thanks for this interesting product :-)
Edit- btw ... just read these system requirements:
"compatible with AmigaOS 3.1, 3.5, 3.9 and 4.0 (PIO mode)"
Isn't MOS for PowerUP supported?
-
fine then ... just found the answer:
"DENEB is available from now on directly at E3B and selected Amiga dealers.
Why is this relevant for MorphOS? Because the card also works under MorphOS PUP and can be used to boot MorphOS PUP directly from FlashRom."
but ... why this "bit" is skipped in the resellers sites Deneb description?
-
but ... why this "bit" is skipped in the resellers sites Deneb description?
You would have to ask that particular reseller ;-)
-
Product description updated - sorry PowerUP MOS users!
-
no need to apologize! (Vesalia have the same info as yours)
it was only to understand! (btw i'm an AmigaOS3-AmigaOS4 and MOS for PowerUP user, actually)
Thanks!
-
"compatible with AmigaOS 3.1, 3.5, 3.9 and 4.0 (PIO mode)"
Why is 4.0 PIO mode only ?...
-
Ok, I found the reason, didn't wanna stir up things just hadn't read about it yet :) Hope it get's solved soon.
-
btw, the current batch of USB to ethernet adapters in maplins are the ADMtech 8515, supported = yay! :-)
-
What sort of speed would I get on the fast zorro II slot on my Z4 busboard on a 040/25 175/603e A1200
Would it be the same as normal Zorro II or twice as fast ?
-
@Platon42 :
can I use a usb joypad with amiga games which are not "WB" friendly ?
No. If multitasking is disabled, there's no USB stack running, thus no joypad support there.
-

My last speed tests with MiamiDx with between Deneb with ASIX Ethernet 100MBit, A4000T/60@50MHz and MiamiDx, Pegasos 2 using tcpspeed (non-native) were about 800KB/sec in both directions.

Not quite. 128 KB in total, both USB and flash rom boards are 64 KB. We optimized the I/O space for Zorro II, so that the 64 KB are enough ;-)

http://www.e3b.de/usb/ -> (British Flag) -> "USB" -> "Benchmarks"
The rows with "FZ2" are Fast Zorro II mode, with Blizzard 1230IV and 1260.
Hope this helps.

Way cool.
I'm getting one :-)
