"Orange Julius" recipe
« on: October 08, 2004, 06:26:18 PM »
In keeping with the recent discussion on pancakes, I thought I would enlighten you to one of my favorite snacks (some call it a light meal).

The recipe is called an "Orange Julius" because it's supposed to taste like the drink of the same name served by the same-titled restaraunt (which has since left Huntsville)...

I like mine much better because it's much more flavorful, then again, I'd never be able to make a business out of selling them for $1.50 at the local mall...

(The following recipe makes two "big gulp" cups full, or about 32 ounces of drink)

So here ya go;

------------
In a blender, place the following items;

6 ounces of frozen, concentrated Orange Juice
1 cup milk
1 cup water
1/4 cup sugar
2 tablespoons of vanilla (I use real vanilla but extract would do)
10 - 12 ice cubes.
optional - 1/2 banana, or 1/4 cup frozen strawberries (be careful because it can easily overwhelm the orange juice)

Blend until smooth.  Enjoy.
------------

P.S.  Please don't let the idea of OJ and milk put you off, it actually mixes quite well in this instance.

6 ounces of frozen, concentrated Orange Juice

I assume you can use freshly squeezed OJ? Or would that ruin the flavour?

It wouldn't "ruin" the flavor, but it would be a lot weaker.  I think the "concentrated" is what gives it the flavor, whereas freshly squeezed would get swallowed up by the flavor of the milk/water/vanilla.  Then again, that's what the real store-bought julius drinks taste like...

6 ounces of FCOJ makes (I believe) 48 ounces of juice when you add water to mix, so you'd have to have the equivalent amount of fresh squeezed OJ to equal the taste, but the texture wouldn't be as creamy I don't think.

All that? I couldn't be bothered.

I prefer to cook saussages in my frying pan. Or, if I'm feeling a little more lazy, saussage rolls in the microwave oven. :_)

It works!

And, I have time to shave (properly), put my clothes on, and sleep! ;-)

(Also, I don't own a fridge and freezer, so a large variety of ingredients isn't very practical - Also, I don't like the taste of oranges :P )
