Hello and greetings
« on: July 04, 2014, 06:16:08 PM »
Hello and greetings from the Canadian west coast!

I'm not new to Amiga computers, I've had an Amiga since December of 1985, the A1000.  I recently decided I wanted to get back to using them after a hiatus so I began my Amiga restoration project.  I also wanted to archive my floppy disk collection before they deteriorate and to educate my daughter (who is 8) that there are more to computers than PC's, Apples, tablets, and smart phones.  Right now I have two A3000's, my original that I've had since early '91, that is now in a tower case, and my second that was given to me by a friend who wanted it to go to a good home.

This is how my systems are set up at the moment.

- Amiga 3000D (rev 8.9) towerized into an Elbox Mirage3000 case
- Amiga 1010 external floppy
- 3.1 ROM
- Cyberstorm MKII 060/50 with 128MB
(I have the SCSI module but haven't been able to get it to work. Yes, I've done the INT2 fix but machine still won't boot with the module on)
- 16MB with a ZIP to SIMM converter
- WD Rev 08 SCSI chip
- Buster 11
- 2MB Chip
- VLab Zorro card
- Prelude sound card with MPegIt module
- Mediator 3000D
- Radeon 9200 with 256MB
- Spider II
- 100Mb RTL 8139 network card
- 2 x 18GB IBM Ultrastar hard drives
- Plextor 40X CD-Rom
- Yamaha 4416 CD burner
- KDS 19" CRT with dual inputs
- SFS on all partitions
- Boot partitions with OS3.9 and OS3.9 with AmiKit
- External USB 300GB HD
- External USB card reader and hub

- Amiga 3000D (rev 9.03) in orignal case
- 3.1 ROM
- A3640 with Quad Doubler
- 16MB with ZIP
- 2MB Chip
- 256MB ZoRAM
- WD Rev 08 SCSI chip
- Buster 11
- Picasso IV
- X-Surf 100
- 18GB IBM Ultrastar hard drive
- NEC external SCSI CD-Rom
- SFS on all partitions
- Boot partition of OS3.1, OS3.9, OS3.9 with AmiKit

Me, I do system and application design and architecture, system admin across our AIX and Solaris servers, database design and admin, senior lead C developer, and if needed COBOL (yes, COBOL is still used), along with a bunch of other stuff that would bore the socks off most people.

Cheers,

Darin.

Hello Darin and welcome!  Those are some nice systems you have.  My personal Amiga experience is only with the A500/A1200's, but I'm working to change that  with a big-box Amiga, in my case a A4000T I'm working to bring back to life. Enjoy the forums, the locals are mostly harmless  :)

Hi Darin and welcome to Amiga Org. Solaris and AIX and Cobol, quite a background.  Yes Cobol is well and truly entrenched in the core of many organisations.
Amiga 3000 was an all round perfect machine for the time. Pity the 4000 didn't extend on that upgrade trend in GFX and sound. Basically just processor. Hmmm.

Cheers from the land of Oz.
