How to Amiga WB

Try that. Tons of info on setting up your workbench and other useful info. Perhaps you need to replace Install (in your C: drawer) with Installer.

Minimig is just a modern incarnation of an A500, so that all the various specialty chips are combined into a single chip, with the means of using PC monitors, mice, & keyboards. All on a tiny PCB. You put game programs that are in ADF format on a Compact Flash, which acts as a HD. Its a portable Amiga.

Be sure to contact Joe at Software Hut about the memory. Their website is seriously out of date and stuff they list hasn't been there for years. He'll usually get back to you pretty quickly.
Amiga 3000D UP and running! Hear that clicking. 8)
Amiga 3000D & 4000D in storage sadly.

Awesome info again Amiduffer! I'm going to read that site pretty close. I nver had a real good understanding of my Amiga back in the day because I was too busy building Timex Sinclair hardware and the stage lighting controller, and after that learning QuickBASIC on the Bridgecard.

I think I'm going to order three more SIMM's for my GVP 040, and the X-Surf. I can't find any of my null modem cables, but hopefully I won't need it if I get the X-Surf.

@KatManDEW,

 Depends on what card. My G-Force will only handle 16Mb max so I have to keep one slot empty to account for PIV. I'll bet your card can handle more.

The instruction manual for my GVP 040 says it can use up to four 16 meg SIMM's. I wonder if the 16's are still available?

Can I expand the chip RAM on my A2000?

What's a PIV?

Funny side note about my GVP 040 accelerator... It was of course horribly expensive, and I had no real justification for purchasing it. But I ordered it anyway, and I came home from work in a blizzard one day, and found a scribbled note on my door from the postman that said "Back porch". I didn't have a back porch at the time, but I went to the back steps, which were covered in snow, and found nothing. I did see a yellow spot in the snow where a dog had urinated. And through the melted yellow snow I saw something... It was the package with my GVP 040.  :-o

@KatManDEW,

"Can I expand the chip RAM on my A2000?"

Yes, I put a DKB Megachip in mine. You'll have to keeps your eyes busy, they are not that common anymore but I still see them from time to time.

Does it help?

Anyone know where to get NoDrawNoFill.LHA which is mentioned on that Workbench website? I can't find it on Aminet.

I got a new version of the Installer, and WHDLoad works now, but I finally realized that you need the games to go with the loader.

Whoo hoo! I got a bunch of stuff working on the old girl. I even found a screen grabber that works with my graphics setup.

I still don't understand exactly what the Minimig and the ACUBE are? Are they hybrid machines that run the Amiga OS?

Acube is an Italian company that manufacture a PPC board which can run the new OS4.x.

Google them or you can go visit the hysterical women on amigaworld.net for more information.

Doy you know anyone using the Acube?

That's OS 3.1 and MUI 2. I just ordered MUI 3.8, and now I have to wait for them to send the registration  :cry:

The Start Menu is this one here;
http://aminet.net/package/util/wb/StartMenu2

It's kinda cool.

There have been a fair few sold.

The Amigaone (also PPC) that came before it sold just over a thousand units and ran OS4. IIRC there is a version that runs on PPC accelerators for classic amigas, but the resale value of these is horrible (I mean expensive). I think some were fetching over £500

@KatManDEW,

"Does it help?"

It helps a whole bunch, especially if your running OS3.5 or
3.9 with hi or truecoler screens. The environment runs a little large.

Is 2 meg the most you can get?

Is OS 3.5 still available? Would I be better off with 3.5 or 3.9?

I just found that Board Master and Image Master are now free ware!

http://www.datapipe-blackbeltsystems.com/amiga.html

I wanted Board Master SO BAD back in the day...

@KatManDEW,

2 meg is all can get or will need, the extra fast will get your DMA rocking and that is where the real horsepower is.

Have fun is the main thing. I hope you still have a good stash of software.

Chris
