PC Spec for UAE
« on: July 06, 2005, 04:09:20 PM »
I am planning on buying a second hand shuttle style pc for running UAE only.  To keep the costs down, i want to buy the lowest spec pc possible.  Can anyone give me an idea of what the lowest spec pc is which still gives high-end performance in UAE?

Thanks!

I had no problems using WinUAE on my old 600Mhz Althon with 384Megs of Ram and a TNT-2 graphics card.

I would suggest anything more powerful than that will work fine.

UAE ran fine on my PIII-500MHz with 256MB ram, the crappy onboard gfx card and a cheap (£10) sound card.

Hum

Shuttle = higher price.

A s/h P2 450 can be bought for £60 nowadays....

(i ran one just for that)

Alternatively you could buy a new cheap `all in one` motherboard with built in graphics and sound etc for less than £40,  and fit that into an old 486 case...using the old HD etc.

[ you will still have to buy a compatible power supply(£20) and memory(£20) though ]

All depends on what sort of system you intend to emulate.

I run UAE on an old K6-II 500MHz with just 256MB / 16MB Voodoo.

Running a JIT 68040 emulation with Picasso96 and native AHI leaves a real 68K amiga for dead.

AGA emulation struggles a bit on this setup however, but then I have four A1200's handy...

if you are running old games and stuff you need a bit more power because the chipset has to be emulated. if you are running newer stuff that uses picasso96 you dont need as much horsepower
Oh yeah?!?
